Great Thai 6/29/2009

\r I went to Wave Thai on Wed. and loved it! It was a warm, breezy day and the big front door was open, the fountain at the front was bubbling away and it was very calm and pleasant as I made my way to the table. I eat Thai once every week or so and I always order the same thing if it is a new place to judge it against previous experiences and the dish I order is Sweet Basil Chicken. I have to say it was the best one out of at least 30 other restaurants I've tried. It had a complexity of flavor and was the perfect spiciness unlike some of the other places I've tried where it is sometimes watered down and rather lackluster. The service was attentive and friendly and the owner even came out and chatted for a while. He has a great vibe and is very easy going and this is evident in the ambience when he is on the floor. In fact I have been back a second time already and it was just as good as the first time. I'm not really sure if the two previous reviewers were eating at Wave Thai or maybe one of the other Thai restaurants in the area because there reviews are hardly believable and somewhat vile and nasty...maybe a competitor in the area?! I work in the restaurant industry and manage a rather large restaurant in the city so I know this type of negative reviewing is not uncommon amongst competing restaurants. I say give it a shot and see for yourself, I have a feeling you will not be disappointed! Pros: Great Food, Ambience, and a Welcoming Owner more

Not good thai 4/5/2009

This was really a very poor example of thai food. The spices were almost undetectable and the food did not taste fresh. It was obvious just by the menu choices that this was an americanized version of asian cuisine totally lacking any authentic resemblance to real thai food. This restaurant is a complete disappointment and is not worth the effort to visit. P.S. ditch the cute wavy utensils they are uncomfortable to use and just amplify the gimmicky and fake ambience of this very mediocre restaurant. Pros: good service Cons: Very poor ingredients and preparation more

Not Good 2/18/2009

We've ordered a couple times from Wave Thai and the Curry Puff and the Appetizers are generally good. The Stir Fry entrees are also ok. BUT there is a Pork Loin Special that has a sauce that smells like a fecal pool. It was so disgusting that I almost threw up in the togo container. The Pad Thai also had the stench of a public restroom. I would never order from this place again. Cons: Food smells like toilet more

Best Thai Food in Astoria 2/17/2009

My husband and I have gone to Wave Thai for over 2 years and we are so lucky to have such a great Thai restaurant so close to home. The food is delicious and the owners really care about every detail of their restaurant. Oh, and did I mention, their prices are amazing? A little slice of Thai heaven right here in Astoria! Pros: Fresh delicious food Cons: not opened 24 hours! more

FINE THAI in Wonderful Astoria NYC 9/7/2008

We feel this is one of the best THAI food joints around! We have eat'n at over 35 Thai food houses in the NYC area and this is #2-3 at the top for food. Small and very nice.A local jewel . Good, very nice staff, always a nice time and a great deal. Pros: Great food at a deal. Cons: With my hole heart,NONE... more

Excellent food and ambience 6/18/2008

The restaurant gets quite busy on weeked nights but you can typically be seated immediately on most other days. I dined here several times - the food is consistently excellent while the service is persistently average. The menu is rather typical, there are usually a couple of specials. The regular items on the menu might not sound interesting however the food quality is quite hight and everything is always delicious. Ambiance is pleasant, if not somewhat dark. The restaurant gets rather noisy when full. Pros: Food, ambience more

Best Thai in Astoria 4/21/2008

My friend eats here often and I started going there with him. I haven't eaten much Thai so I usually ask the waitress for some input and I have always been very pleased. The appetizers and specials are always really great and the entrees are so delicious. You will leave stuffed if you can finish the entire portion. The Thai drinks are very good too. The owner and staff are incredibly sweet and the ambiance is very relaxed and cozy. The flank steak salad is a great lunch choice. Amazing prices and lunch specials! Pros: Great prices, generous portions, lovely atmosphere more

Varied menu 2/16/2008

We absolutely love this place. The food is fantastic and we are addicted to their house salad and long list of delightful appetizers. The staff are so helpful and the restaurant is so cozy. It's hard to imagine a romantic Thai restaurant, but this place is just that. The only downside is that they don't have a bar, so you can only order bottled beer and wine. Pros: Great food, cozy atmosphere, reasonable Cons: No bar more

Best Thai in Astoria 8/6/2007

I go through phases when I eat a certain ethnic food more regularly than any others for a period of time. During my recent Thai binge, this was the only place I would order from. I also highly recommend dining out, there. The ambience is soothing and romantic, great for a dinner-for-two or a double date. Try the Pad Thai with shrimp. It's a ""safe"" order at a Thai restaurant, I know, but it's great. Amazing spicier dishes too. Perfect when washed down with some Singha Thai beer. Delivery can be astonishingly quick. Pros: Food, Ambience, Delivery more

LOVE IT! 11/14/2006

Excellent. We are addicted. Either eating in the restaurant or ordering in (they deliver) - it is always great!\r The peanut princess with chicken is just ridiculous - so good! more

FABULOUS THAI Restaurant 10/31/2006

I have been to many Thai restaurants, including Sea and Taos, and by far this is my favorite place to go to! Not simply because of its closeness to my home, but the service, food, wine, and decor are just simply amazing! I've been going here since it opened and am completely addicted. The only con I can think of is that they do not have a full stocked bar. But, their wine selection is so good that it makes up for that ;) more

Tasty Thai food with a cozy decor 9/5/2006

This is a new lovely spot in Astoria... great food... very tasty!!! and the decor is cozy and romantic but it is great for groups too...nothing to envy to trendy spots in Manhattan... and price is reasonable... portions are more than enough..I've been there several times and never had a problem.... well, once... it was too spicy!!... Overall, one of my favorite Thai places and just around the corner... you should try it!!! Pros: cozy decor, tasty food, not in Manhattan but looks like one Cons: sometimes food is too spicy!! more
