if you live in Astoria, this is hands down the best place for sushi. they just reopened after expanding, and the food is as good as it was before. consistently fresh, well made sushi. more

OMG!!!!!!! Best Sushi ever!!!! I was just there yesterday and it was one of the best experiences FOOD wise ever!!! The service, not much to comment on, it was not bad, but not very personable either, but the Food was great!!! I defintely recommened this place!! Misoooo Hungryyyyyyyy for sushi!!!!!!! more

BEST sushi...really! 8/16/2010

I (dangerously) live down the street from this restaurant and I dream about their food! You cannot go without getting the Pauline roll. It is seriously addictiving! The prices are great and the staff is very friendly. The lunch specials are such a great deal. They have them on Saturdays too and you get sooo much food for your money. The fish is fresh and always good. Their shumai is also awesome. If you love sushi you really need to try this place. more

Its the best suchi in the wurld. I've bin eatin' california rolls for years and these are the best cali rolls ever! The soy sauce is amazing and not too salty and the japanese mustard is mild kinda like normal. Great place just wasn't crazy about the raw fish ! The waitresses are hot ! more

I can't get enough of this place. Each time I go there with my friends I ask myself why I waited so long to come back! All of the sushi is soo good, the prices are not bad, and the waiters are always nice! This place is pretty much always crowded and the food has always been fresh! I can't wait to go back! Best Sushi in Town 11/12/2009

Watawa has the best sushi I have ever had! I go to many sushi restaurants all over the city but this one is by far the greatest. Decor is hip and trendy- you don't feel like you're in Astoria. Menu is awesome, always have sushi special rolls to die for. Try the Bumble Bee roll - trust me its ridiculously good. Pros: Everything! Cons: None! more

i ate 2 days ago,i can not imagine,they served with crack dish...maybe i should tell Healthy department,n sushi used unfresh fish..i ate spicy tuna,when i opened the roll,i saw frozen tuna...holly crap!!..n then i tried yaki udon...taste was really bad...tasteless..blent...n the service terrible..chinatown style...thats why they price so cheap..my suggestion dont go to this junk restaurant...what a nightmare.. Too bland 8/12/2009

I honestly don't see what the fuss is about! I finally tried Watawa after hearing about it and I wasn't impressed at all. I have tried a lot of great sushi places, A LOT of places and I have always had a good review but the sushi there seemed to lacking flavor, presentation was too bland. The place is nice, and yes, the music is a bit too loud and don't seem to match the ambiance. I rather to go Sakura, so far the best in Astoria. more

Some of the Best sushi in Astoria - but can someone do something about the music please? 1/11/2009

We have loved the sushi at this place for over two years now. One of our two favorites in the hood. The sushi is awesome! We have repeatedly tested all suchi places in Ditmars area of Astoria where we live. This is the best food of them all. The only problem is the music - it's like a club in there. So don't go expecting a realxing quiet time. The ambiance is lvoely other than that - romatic and cozy. The music does not match the feel of hte place though. Most of the time it's loud house or trance or someting - with pumping base subwofer that makes your heart rate speed up. And it's always way too loud and annoying. So we order in more often then go in. Pros: Excellent food, lovely decor, great service. Cons: Loud clubby music. more

Best sushi in Astoria 11/9/2008

Best sushi in Astoria hands down. I've tried JJs, Sakura, and Gowasabi. They are all good except Gowasabi, but I think Watawa is the best. Usually I get the sushi for one with eel avocado and its excellent. Service is good and friendly. For appetizers try the rock shrimp or the spring rolls. The Asahi beer or Kirin light are my fav. Not a big fan of sake but I see a lot of people order it. My friend always gets the teriaky steak and is good as well. Pros: Excellent Sushi Cons: Sometimes is a bit crowded more

Our Friday night favorite... 7/4/2008

We stumbled upon Watawa awhile ago - and will keep going back. Whenever we're in town, we make a point to go to Watawa on Friday nights. The service is great, the sushi is REALLY good and we've tried just about every appetizer/sushi roll. The downside is the pricing - (adds up pretty quickly), but my fiance loves that they offer a 33 ounce beer and I'm a fan of the unlimited green tea. If you have room, you should try the Mochi too - it's a thin layer unlike many of the others. more

Great sushi comparable to sushi in the city 5/7/2008

My boyfriend and I are huge fans of sushi and bigger fans of nice restaurants. When we find a good place, we stick with them. I first stumbled upon this place walking home from the train one day and now boyfriend and I cant get enough. Good sushi specials, nice presentation, clean, great date, attentive waiters and warm ambience. Its especially nice during the warm weather when you can get seating by the open doors. The only con is on occasion, they can get a little carried away with the volume of their music. Pros: ambience, neighborhood, sushi, service, great date spot Cons: loud music more

BEST SUSHI IN NYC!!! 8/3/2007

I have been goin to Watawa pretty much since its opening a couple of years ago. It seriously gives all sushi spots in the city a run for their money. Their specialty rolls are OUT OF THIS WORLD. All I need is some edamame, a pauline roll, some green tea, a fried greentea ice cream and I am the happiest camper ever. I feel blessed in a sense that Watawa is on good old Astoria, so I dont have to travel far for GREAT SUSHI. I cant stress how FRESH the sushi is here, I never had an old ""fishy"" experience like I sometimes do at some of the ""trendy"" places in the city. This is the perfect place to bring a date, a friend, or even some family! Music and ambience is great. Staff is friendly and warm. I love it! Pros: Close to home, fresh food, you get your monies worth! Cons: NONE!!!!!!! more

This is a very cute sushi restaurant with good service. The food is always prepared beautifully and is fresh and tastey. The dimmed lights and candles make this place great for a date. Unlike Any Other! 2/22/2007

Everything from the service to the food itself is spot on. Try to catch their lunch special where you get 2 rolls, soup&salad for under $9. I reccommend their signature rolls such as the Pauline roll, Dynamite roll, and Spider roll. All perfectly crafted and plated. Even their usual rolls are amazing, especially the spicy crab and Philadelphia roll. If you can, try ordering the Christmas or Nemo rolls (you won't find them on the menu, an insider's tip). The atmosphere is wonderful and all the green tea you can drink! Believe me when I say that this is the best sushi bar you will ever find in NY. Forget Haru or Sushi Samba. Watawa takes pride in it's traditional excellence and doesn't rely on commercialism. It's fresh, fast, and they'll treat you like family. Pros: Amazing food! Cons: Too delicious! more
