Awesome Wings & Service! 3/21/2011

We always make it a point to stop at W.T.'s or the Gingerman when visiting the Albany area. The staff and food is always great at both places. Not easy to do for 20 + years. The Gingerman stuffed mushrooms are the BEST we've had in our many travels and the wings at W.T.'s are outstanding. Great wine, beer, food and service. Both places are gems.. more

Good bar and good food 9/15/2010

I've only been here once but it's pretty good. The food is delish and not TOO over-priced. I love that it's within walking distance, both from SUNY downtown campus and my apartment. more

OVERATED 10/27/2003

The crowds use to be good here, now it has died. They tried putting money into and making it look nicer. Still no one goes. Drinks are expensive for the area, the food has gone down hill over the years. Head downtown for a thriving mix of clubs and bars. Pros: Bartenders know what their doing, Over 21 Cons: Parking, Prices, Food, TV's more

In Vino Veritas - T's is the Best 12/16/2002

Best bar in the Albany area. It offers a late night scene that far exceeds any of the other Pine Hills stops. For the afterwork crowd the happy hour is amazing - my favorite with a pint is the either the hot chicken wings or french fries, you have get the horseradish sauce with the fries, the best. The LI Ice Teas, Bloody Marys, and mixed drinks served by Albany's finest bartenders - Mr. Harris (Mark to some) Sean, and Al (daytime & happy hours). Don't forget - St. Patricks day or the Saturday before St. Patricks day (free cornbeef & cabbage all day) - if you can't be either in Boston, NYC, or Chicago for St. Patricks there is no better in the US then at the T's being served by Sligo's favorvite son - Mike Byron. Pros: Bartenders, Atmosphere, Patrons more

If you're into the Fraternity thing? 9/20/2002

Hanging with the fraternities was something I did in my undergraduate years, so to come to WT's and do it again was definitely not my style. The music was loud so you had to lean over and talk to one another, otherwise you couldn't hear what they were saying. They did have a great deal on Coors Light, so that was a bonus, but otherwise...not for me. Cons: Parking more

the colder the better 6/6/2002

Where oh where did this "the Irish like warm beer" myth begin? The WT is a fun bar but no Irishman would drink the Guinness there....it isn't poured properly for starters...but then that's true almost everywhere in the state's. And it's never as cold as you'll find it in Sligo! more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Proprietors Mike and Pat Byron have worked hard over the last 25 years to create an upscale college hangout that still stays true to their Irish roots. Nestled in the heart of the university area, Washington Tavern offers an Albany-meets-Ireland ambience with tasteful decoration and a hallmark tradition of customer accommodation.

    Food and Booze
"The W.T.," as it's affectionately known, is famous for its reasonably priced drinks as well as the manner in which they serve their Guinness stout. Pints are delivered just as they would be in Sligo, Ireland: room temperature, creamy and smooth. While you're there, enjoy a hearty dish or two from the W.T.'s full menu of sandwiches, soups, fish and chips, and shepherd's pie.
