The Washington County Free Library is a wonderful, full service library located conveniently in downtown Hagerstown. The first bookmobile in the United States got it's start here and it continues to run today.
The library offers a fabulous children's section, a special teen loft, a tremendous collection of videos and dvds and several computers with internet access in addition to the very large collection of books, magazines and other multimedia materials.
A few days per week the Western Maryland room is available for research of the history of the area or family geneology.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. A website exists which allows for reserving and renewing books right from home. The library is also linked to other libraries across the state so if this location does not have a specific book it can be ordered from another library elsewhere.
They have long hours on weekdays and are also open on weekends for limited hours.
There is ample parking right outside the library.
