I have been in the culinary trade for about 10 years. I have eaten all over Richmond and this place is a rare find. If I was to rave about everything that makes this place incredible my review would take up more text than any person can comfortably read so I will go over the highlights.
If you love sushi and you live in the Midlothian area then, like me, this place will become your sushi destination. If you have read the myriad reviews about this place on other websites you will notice a consistent word. Fresh. I simply can't put into words the truth of this claim. I have eaten here so frequently now that I can't put a number to my total visits and every single time the fish has been so clean and so pure that even sushi skeptics would have a hard time not converting. Their regular sushi is obviously incredible but their specialties are even more so. If you are a first timer to Wasabi and looking to try the best of their best order the pumpkin roll and never look back. It is always on their specials board and rightfully so. This is a meal that will literally change your life.
The thing that works against Wasabi is that so many people are fixated by their sushi that nobody really talks about the rest of their food and this really deserves a lot of mention as well. The rest of Wasabi's menu should not be neglected and if you do not like sushi then you do not have to fear searching for an option you might like. They have a variety of noodle bowls (delicious broths and a few exceptional ingredients combined to create soul stirring dishes), they have hibachi options with your choice of sauces ( I recommend the shrimp with asian bbq, it is exquisite), and their bento boxes offer a great variety and a really killer value. You will be absolutely amazed by the amount of food you get, the quality, and all for prices that fit literally any budget. Oh yea, want a great appetizer? Two words. Pork gyoza.
I tell at least two people a week about Wasabi. I also try and take as many people as I can there. The best part is, these people come back and tell me that they not only thoroughly enjoyed themselves, but they also went out the next week and took two more friends that have never been. I never write reviews. This is most likely my first and only. Wasabi deserves it, and more importantly, you deserve to know about it so that you can discover a local place that truly lives up to its praise. If you support one local business this week, make it Wasabi, they have earned it and you will never be sorry you did it.
