Back a few years ago when we decided it was time to purchase a new pickup truck, we stopped in at Walker GMC in Alexandria, La. We were just browsing around to see what the new models looked like and to decide what we were going to want. Knowing that we have never been able to deal locally for a new vehicle because the local dealerships just don't offer what the out of towners do, we were just looking and had no intentions of talking with a salesperson.
A young salesman came out and introduced himself to us and asked if he could help. We assured him that we were just beginning to look and that we have a dealer we use out of town because they make much better deals.
This young man, obviously not employeed here very long, insisted that we give him a chance to deal with us.
My husband, knowing that we wouldn't buy, told him ok.
Hubby said to him: "This is the vehicle we want. Give me your very best price the first time and if it beats whatever I find elsewhere, I will give you the sale". The young guy went in to the office and figured. He got all of our information and naturally we had to sign a paper with all of our information) before he could make us an offer. He came back with an offer and my husband laughed.... he said, surely you can't find a better deal. My husband laughed..... He asked for another chance. He went back to the sales manager and came back with another figure. A very very good figure. My husband asked for the towing package to be included and for a spray on bed liner thrown in.
The young man went once again to his sales manager and came back with the OK on the towing package and the sprayed on bed liner. We took the deal. It was an awesome deal. So good that we considered buying two. We even asked if we could get two at that same price. Then he must have realized that he had given us a better deal than we expected. When all was said and done... the paperwork finished and the check given to him, he once again had gone to his sales manager (while we waited to take possession of our new vehicle). When he came out he looked as if he may have had a tear in his eye. My husband jokingly asked if he would consider another deduction in price...The young man stuttered and said, i think you made the best deal ever.
We knew we had made a good deal. We didn't know that he had given us the current rebate twice when he quoted us the final offer. We felt bad but he had to honor the quote.
Maybe it was worth shopping locally this time.
