The best BBQ in the KC area. Don't leave without trying the mushrooms. Fun Saturday night blues garden with a great genre. Good food, good times. Yum Yum

What has happened to the delicious, fun and happy place that USED to be Wabash BBQ? We have typically enjoyed our food and service over the past decade. Unfortunately on Saturday 1-12-13, our service consisted of a chain-smoking scantily clad waitress with noticeably dirty hands that were not washed once during our service, as we observed. All waitresses in Wabash were smoking publicly and incessantly during our meal, however none of the patrons were smoking. In addition to the waitresses’ (multiple) unkempt appearance, their language was FAR worse. I have never heard so many ways to use the F word, in my almost 40 years of living, and I work in the construction industry! Hard to top that type of language at times, but your girls managed to put them to shame. To add insult to injury, we were overcharged for four bottled beers, at $3.25 each, when your menu clearly states $2.75. We were anticipating some delicious leftovers to enjoy throughout the week … too bad we cannot enjoy them afterall: The ribs on the combo were 100% fat and gristle, tasted re-heated and old; the ham and turkey was grocery store deli counter lunchmeat; the brisket was assuredly a partly done pot roast; and the sausage casing was impenetrable. Our sides were the size of a shot glass, and the cole slaw was vomitus at best (usually my favorite part of the meal!) After we left, we read reviews online of Wabash BBQ that would have warned us had we read them before we made our decision to drive an hour to eat there and waste over 50 bucks. Something must be done to improve both the food quality and the atmosphere. Thank God for the pre-packaged deep-fried corn nugget appetizer – it made the meal. more

Would not Recommend. 6/25/2011

I use to love the food at this establishment, not anymore. 2 times in the past 6 months I have found chunks of meat in my drink glass. The first time it was stuck to my teaspoon. The second time I was already about a third through the drink when I noticed it on the inside of my cup. Nasty. Neither time did they offer to do anything other than give me a different drink. The management did not find it shocking at all. I understand things happen, but this is in excess. It makes me wonder just how clean the kitchen is? What a shame, they really did have good food. I am into cleanliness however. more

Wabash bbq 1/5/2011

We went to Wabash on new years eve 12-31-2010 as we have for the last 6 years always have the same NYE special prime rib and lobster tail, I called thursday just to make sure they were still having the same special I was told yes it will be the prime rib and lobster tail, We arrived at the restaurant about 7 pm and we were very surprised to see the parking lot almost empty, but hey our lucky night right? WRONG as soon as we went in we could tell something was wrong the dining room was COLD!! we saw some friends they said you cant order anything fried..ok we did not want fried anyway we came for the special, our server came over finally we both asked for the special but we were informed no lobster tails left hmmm the special started at 5:30 and its only a bit after 7 anyway I said how about some of the yummy fried mushrooms nope fryer is broken ok we can deal with things. We waited and waited for our salads (mind you there are only 2 other tables in the dining room) the server brings the ajus and horseradish for the prime rib still no salad I asked about it oh my she forgot them, I dinner arrives it looks wonderful looks are deceiving it had no taste at all. I called the restaurant and spoke to a manager she said she would have someone call me back well 4 days later I am still waiting on that call. No I don't want anything free just wanted to let the owner know but then again maybe they already to, We won't be returning anytime soon. more

If you are used to eating good BBQ avoid this place 8/13/2009

Sauce is great, and so are the onion strings, but the meat is terrible. So over smoked its black on the inside as well as the outside. It tastes like you are easting wood literally. Don't be fooled. Cons: wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy over smoked more

Top 5 BBQ in KC 4/3/2008

Wabash produces delicious barbecue over and over again. The atmosphere is good, service is good and summer brings their outdoor concert series which is a blast! Some of the best Q in KC and I've tried them all! Pros: Try the Fried Mushrooms! Cons: Pretty far out in Excelsior Springs but worth the drive more

FANTASTIC BBQ THAT LIVES UP TO KC STANDARDS! 2/15/2008

I have been to this restaurant several times, and will continue to go back!! Everything from the fall of the bone baby back ribs to the smoked turkey, to the burnt ends to the tenderloin sandwich (best I have ever had) to the combo platter appetizer is phenomenal!! One must order the combo platter as an appetizer so you can experience a great sampling of some of the fantastic appetizers! The piggyback combo is great for someone who has never been and wants to try a bit of everything. The staff friendliness varies, a;though we have been very happy with Nancy and Heather, and though we havent seen him lately, Mondo in the smokehouse (denoted by a sign on the building) is super friendly as well! Pros: The fantastic BBQ! more

Good food, not so good service... 11/26/2006

Love the half chicken. Very tender. Really haven't had a bad meal here. But have had very poory service. Even got up and left without being spoke to once, which is pretty amazing cause the place is so small. But if you know anything about excelsior springs this won't be shocking. Very hard to find reliable help in that area. more

The Best BBQ I have ever had!!! 8/22/2005

It is a little place but you get a different feel when eating here..when you come I recommend the mushrooms & the onions as appetizers. The mushrooms kind of remind me of morrel mushrooms. The babyback ribs are so moist they practically fall off the bone. I love smoked meats. If you don't I wouldn't recommend this place. It's right next to the historic Elm's Hotel & Spa. I wouldn't recommend that place. It's too much money for nothing. But, this BBQ is a little pricey for us,but well worth it. YUMMY!!!! Not upscale by any means, just come for great food with no expectations and you'll have a great time. In the summer they have bands playing outside on the weekends. Cons: small more

Incredable BBQ 6/10/2005

The absolute best in the Kansas City area! We drive 2.5 hours just to have it. The Burnt ends are to die for more

Too Smoky? 8/24/2003

A fair BBQ but nothing positively memorable. A bit too smokey and hid the meat flavor. Ribs a bit burned. Brisket okay almost too dry. Beans were okay. Need to really improve their restroom facilities. This old train station depot didn't have such great restroom facilities 70 years go, let alone now. Quaint but needs improving. Overall, not worth the drive for most folks but if you're in the area, its reasonably priced and its not bad BBQ. You just can't get bad BBQ in Kansas City or the area. Pros: good parking, unique building Cons: meat a bit too smoky, restrooms poor, service was slow more
