CoreComm (formerly Voyager.net) is an East Lansing based Internet Provider that has local dial-up numbers across the US. While they don't have a broadband product, their dial-up access is pretty good.
I've used AOL for years, but started to see endless busy signals, so I tried CoreComm. Their customer service and tech support representatives are fantastic ... and what's more, THEY ALL SPEAK FLUENT ENGLISH! :) No out-souring in this company, apparently.
I never see a busy signal, and if my connection fails, it is only because my modem is circa 1995. I would recommend them if you are looking for a back-up dial-up account for your broadband connection, or if you're looking to connect to the 'net with 56k
