Vortex is a unique store to visit. There is so much to see here so make sure you are not in a hurry when you do stop. There are many crystals. The employees are more than willing to explain the properties of the crystals to you. There are also some books on the subject if you would rather read about it. There are other types of jewelry and gifty items that you do not see anywhere else. more

The Vortex is a great place to shop if you are looking for a really unique gift. They have a pretty big selection of crystals. I have found a few really beautiful crystals here. The people who work here were really helpful. They explained to me all the properties of this crystal they were selling. I'm sure some of it was just for the sale, but it was interesting to here none the less. more

This store is fun to browse. Make sure you have an hour or more because it is so hard to leave. They carry lots of gems, jewelry of all kinds, books on all topics and lots of little gifts for all occasions. I have bought jewelry here and they really try to get you what you want. The employees are friendly and very helpful. You can sign up for there email newsletter and they will send you there sales and other going ons with them. I really think this is a fun place to visit. more

This is a really cool store. I found it very interesting to look through all of the items they offer here. A wide variety of things from very beautiful rocks (geodes and polished rocks), African items to hang on your walls, stars and moons. My favorite is the beaded jewelry they have. Wow. You really do need to visit this store just once to understand what I’m talking about. Parking is pretty much non-existent, so be prepared to walk. more

Unique store with many ideas for the hard to shop for person. They have a huge selection of beaded jewelry, African themed decorations, geodes, many different types of polished rocks, and even constilation items. More of a "trendy" type store and a definite place to visit for those who are labeled as "environmentalists". Very large store with many things to look at and something for nearly every budget. Beautiful music (soothing sounds). On street parking which can be a bit difficult. more

Vortex is a wonderfully unique store deep in the middle of downtown Iowa City on Washington street. Though it can be difficult to find close by parking, this store is well worth the walk you may have to travel to find it. It is full of one of a kind gifts, crystals and other "new age" items as well. I always love walking into Vortex, I feel as if I have left my troubles outside for there is something in the design of this store that gives the visitor a calming feeling and an eagerness to FIND that which is calming as well. I have bought many a "unique" gifts for people in my life at this store and have never heard a negative reaction t them...instead most recognize the gift as coming from Vortex and comment on "how cool the store is!"... The next time you are in downtown Iowa City, take a walk down Washington street and visit the Vortex....but schedule plenty of time to do so, it will be something you will want to explore in depth! more
