If you're looking for upscale Italian food in Blacksburg, Vincent's is the best you'll find. The building isn't much to look at, but inside they've created a warm, if slightly cramped, environment perfect for a casual-to-dressy night out. It's the first place we go when visitors come to town. The owner greets customers at the door and seems to recognize even infrequent regulars like myself. They genuinely don't mind children, and they offer a decent children's menu, though the environment is formal enough that we don't want to bring the children every time.
The wine list is adequate and the food is delicious. I make an effort to try something different every other time, but I keep coming back to the veal parmigiana (the sauce can be a little heavy and isn't interesting enough to make me finish the spaghetti, but the veal is excellent). The "special" appetizer of stuffed portobello mushrooms is outstanding, almost a meal in itself (and I don't even care for mushrooms as a rule). And the cannoli is the best I've been able to find locally, so good that I order it every time (even over the cheesecake, when I generally prefer cheesecake to any other dessert) and request that my husband bring me one whenever he's there with a colleague!
There are better Italian restaurants in some of the major cities, but this is one of those places that makes me proud to live in Blacksburg, and I'll keep going back to Vincent's as long as they're there.
