I enjoy fishing Flaming Gorge. But the drive to the Gorge is so long that I always have to make it an overnighter. I have stayed at the Villa Inn several times. The first couple of times it was OK. But recently the management there has started to show their true colors. The manager is the owner and the one who makes reservations and takes customer?s money. I?ll tell you the good things first and then the bad last.
Here is what is good about the Villa Inn: Its price is very reasonable, the rooms are large enough for a traveling fisherman to bring in all his fishing gear (I even brought in my bow-mount electric trolling motor), the bathrooms are clean and in good condition, cable TV, air conditioning, and will make arrangements for late check-in.
Here is what is bad: The manager, the manager, the manager! He has harassed me for parking my boat where he had recommended that I park it several other times. Because he is not always there for check-in (and I guess he has no other employees to cover for him when away) you may have to call him on the number posted on the door. I did that and he chewed me out for not meeting him earlier in the day. He chewed out my friend for asking for clarification on the prices. When asked, the manager threw his card back at him and said ?You know, I don?t have to rent to you.? There?s more but I won?t elaborate here.
In summary, it is a reasonably OK place to stop to take a shower and rest your weary body. But be forewarned; don?t ask too many question, do exactly as you are told, and KEEP YOUR RECIEPT!
