Best

Have been going to Amantea for 30+ years and it's still our family favorite. From their gnocchi to their broiled Halibut to their pizza (best!) They are THEE best in town. Simple,...

Worst

Would rather drive down Warren Ave and go to delucas. rumor they are related but delucas flavor has been the same since I was a child 40 years ago.

Editorial review from Citysearch 4/13/2015

What I love about this place is that they have so man7y kinds of meals to look forward to. You can always get different meals whenever you go and still expect freshness. more

Great family dinner 8/24/2012

Have been going to Amantea for 30+ years and it's still our family favorite. From their gnocchi to their broiled Halibut to their pizza (best!) They are THEE best in town. Simple, family atmosphere but very good food & great staff. Would even recommend broasted chicken & mostaccioli to be catered for parties. more

Bug's are free 12/29/2009

My family and I have been eating at Amantea's for 30+ years and used to really enjoy the food. Recently, we have noticed that the quality of food seems to have gone down hill. In regards to our last visit, when our dinner was brought to us we noticed a large bug on our table. The waitress and owner claimed it must have come from the ceiling and that the top plate would have been to hot for a bug to survive. However, their were five of us at the table and one of us would have noticed a bug coming from the ceiling, especially since we had been sitting for quite some time. I believe that the bug came from the kitchen and either got on the table from a salad that was barely eaten or the bottom plate that they put under the lasagna dish. Either way it got there it was still a terrible experience. I didn't even want to eat my food after that incident. The owner laughed when he came to the table and told us that the ""extra protein (referring to the bug) was free"" He didn't take anything off our bill and only offered us a free ice cream, which nobody wanted! I was completely grossed out and will never eat there again. Pros: Warm breadsticks Cons: Poor service, poor quality, dirty more

Amantea Restaurant is The Real Deal 8/12/2009

Good home cooking with a touch of flair. Soups like "Granny" use to make, pasta like Aunt Annie use to bake, don't forget the crisp salads they do create.I give em two tubs of Yum! more

Best Italian Place EVER!!! 6/27/2009

We as a family have been going to Amantea's for years. The food is so great! Can't beat the Gnocci's OMG! Sause is like grandma use to make and my husbands side dish fav is the Cole slaw with that awesome dressing. Service is terrific. I can't believe any one would give this place bad reviews. Best Veal Parmesan in all the US! I think I have been getting that same dish for over 20 years! Go there you will not be sorry!!! more

Seen the last of me 3/6/2009

Another restaurant that appears to be failing due to the economic down turn. This is a family type Italian fare restaurant. My last visit I noted that the number if side dishes that came with a meal have been cut to two, which would include a salad if you ordered one. The portions are smaller, the quality has fallen. I have been a patron for 32 years, but not anymore. No wonder the restaurant was not as crowded on a late Sunday afternoon as it has been in the past. Pros: warm bread sticks Cons: poor service more

Disappointed too 11/19/2008

I am in total agreement with quvet's review. After many, many years of dining there with my family, we always thought that the restaurant was ""the best"". At our last 2 visits, everything has changed for the worst and we no long care to go there to be disappointed again. How sad. more

great spaghetti 7/30/2008

Amantea's has great spaghetti. It is loaded with cheese and doesn't have to much sauce you are given a huge portion along with salad and amazing bread sticks. I'm getting hungry just writing about it. more

Has been my favorite for years 2/5/2008

I have never had a bad experience here, have been going for over 20 years, and my parents have been going for longer than that. It's a great family restaurant, that has it's own unique feeling. The owner is great and very friendly! I love it! Pros: Parking, Service, Food Cons: I've found nothing in all the times I've gone more

Disappointed 1/3/2008

I've been going to Amanteas for 20+ years. It has long been a favorite of mine and my family. However the visit tonight was very disappointing. The soft bread sticks which have long been a favorite of my kids were flat and hard. We found out that they have changed the number of side dishes that come with the meal after all these years from 3 to 2. The baked potatoes were minuscule compared to what they used to serve. Dom must be falling on hard times these days and is replacing the once quality products with sub quality products to make up the difference. After all these years I will have to think hard before going back again which is indeed a said day for my family and me. more

No big deal 12/26/2007

Wasn't all I was led to believe. It was good, hot food, but nothing that would draw me back anytime soon. I mean, you can go to any italian restaurant and get good hot food. Dario's is another restaurant in town and probably has better food. But I'm not terribly impressed with them either. Pros: Quality food, good conversation location Cons: Older looking dining area, probably not a good place to bring small children more

Everything on the menu is top notch, best ever. 6/20/2007

I've been going to Amantea since they opened in 1975, I've tried, over the years, everything on the menu. never have I been disappointed, some items I naturally like more and reorder those items, but even the things I don't normally get were great. Always have great service. Never have I felt out of place, be it wearing a tux or in bib-overalls, they have treated me with the same level of respect either way. Pros: always feel at ease and never dissappointed Cons: None yet in 32 years of going there more

Best Italian in Metro Detroit, Period. 1/11/2007

Having frequented this restaurant for 26 years, I can honestly say it is the best family-owned Italian place in Metro Detroit. The pizza is absolutely perfect, no matter the topping. Homemade pasta is always good, the tomato sauce rocks, and my husband likes the steak and chicken entrees. And the lasagna - my god!!!! Absolutely to die for - if you don't try it you are missing out. Don't overlook the specials list, either - there's always something new and different to be found there The decor was recently updated, which is nice, and the service is phenomenal - half of the waitresses have been there, no joke, since the place opened over 30 years ago. Awesome place for pizza and Italian food! more

Fantastic Pizza 6/24/2006

When my husband and I feel like having a great pizza and a few beers, this is the place we go to. I enjoy the casual atmosphere and the hospitality. This place is very affordable, if you Pros: great pizza, friendly people more

Best Italian Food for miles 6/21/2006

I love this place. We have been coming here for years. The food is great. We've always had great service. We celebrated birthdays etc... Never a problem with bringing a large crowd. We live about 45 minutes away and don't think twice about driving. (even with the gas prices) more

Worst Food Ever! 5/14/2006

Twilight zone experience. Clientele was mostly elderly, overweight and/or disabled. Could hear the loud conversations of those seated next to me. Was seated way too close to the two tables nearby. One look at menu, hated the selections. Husband and I both ordered seafood. Husband could only eat 1/2 of his, I ate 1/4. My lettuce in salad tasted weird. Sauce in Spaghetti tasted like tomato paste watered down. Green beans were from a can. Sat across from where they threw dirty dishes. Prices were slightly lower than most restaurants but come on, Big Boy is better than this place. Ate on a Friday night, could not figure out why so busy. more

Great All Around! 4/22/2006

I love this place. Probably my favorite Italian Resturant ever. They have a very large menu and something for everyone. Does get quite busy, but they have a lot of tables. So the wait is never that long. It's a popular place and I am amazed not to see many reviews. I eat here at least once a month. More during the lent season. Great fish and chips. more

Amantea's. If you like Italian food this is the place for you! 12/5/2005

Amantea's. If you like Italian food this is the place for you. The food is excellent. Besides the Italian items there are delicous steaks, chops, and shrimp or chicken with ribs combo. The ribs fall off the bone. We had dinner there yesterday and saw the beautiful new mural that has been painted on one wall...it's worth going in to see! Nice facilities for parties, showers or any friendly gathering. Very friendly service from a great group of servers. We love this place and think you will too. PROS: Nice atmosphere, friendly service and excellent food. CONS: more

Old World Ambience and Great Food!! 11/7/2005

Best Pizza around!! Authentic Italian food combined with traditional old world Italian ambience in a restaurant today usually means no prices on the menu and a snooty waiter but this place has somehow managed to maintain it's ambience without being overpriced or becoming like a chain restaurant or a fazolli's(which have the worst food!) And I would recommend this place for any kind of gathering, I used them for a Wake and they were very understanding and more than helpful. The food was of course tremendous and plentiful. They helped to make a painful day a little brighter for everyone involved. My ENTIRE extended family loves this place and goes here often! Pros: Background music, Owner presence, Food quality more
