Customer Loyalty Not a Priority Here! 4/5/2008

Laura Reiley's editorial review is outdated.... AJ is no longer the chef there and the ownership has changed hands, which is extremely unfortunate. Viaggio's was my favorite restaurant in Saratoga so when my husband and I got married a few years ago, a friend gave us a $50 gift certificate to Viaggio. I had recommended she and her husband spend their anniversary dinner there as well. The year after our wedding was extremely busy and the gift certificate showed an expiration date from one month prior when I finally called to make reservations. A few years earlier, a law had passed that disallows businesses from using expiration dates on paid gift certificates. I assumed the certificates were simply old ones that still had that info, but after numerous phone calls to the owner, I was continually told by an employee that the owner would not honor the gift certificate. The owner never even called me back himself. Their excuse was that since they bought the restaurant and the certificate was purchased by my friend prior to their buying the restuarant, they did not feel responsible for honoring it, even though they are still doing business under the Viaggio name. I wrote a letter which also fell on deaf ears. In the letter I suggested that the negative comments that are passed from person to person about an experience like this is far more costly than serving a meal. I did not receive a reply to the letter. more

Way to ruin a special night., (Cont...,part 3 ) 2/17/2007

There is no bright side because all 3 of the couples that sat near us complained as well and I am sure they are telling those around them of their disspopinting evening at Viaggios!! Cons: everything more

4 star restaurant, 3 star price, great value! 11/25/2005

After making thaksgiving reservations, and subsequently reading the reviews on City Search(I did it backwards, I know.) We were pleasantly suprised on thanksgiving at Viaggio's buffet, the food was excellent, the service was on par with the the best I've experienced in my life(46 years), and they were even so kind as to send my wife off with a couple of extra desserts at the end of our evening...I wish all restaurants were this good, excellent food and super attentive staff. My wife and I will definitely come back here for special occasions. I don't know what the deal was with the previous negative reviews, This is the first review I've been compelled to write on City Search, because I had such a wonderfull time at Viaggio I would hate to have people pass up dining there because of a couple of negative reviews. Pros: attentive staff, excellent food, nice atmosphere Cons: none, none, none more

Inconsistent or lesser chef? 11/18/2005

Six people who eat out a lot ordered six different entrees. Everything was pretty good, but nothing was delicious or interesting or exciting. The room was nice, the service was good. But we went after another event in the area, which meant we arrived at 5:30 pm, so the place was empty when we got there. It did fill up. It's B+ kind of place. There are much better restaurants in Saratoga. Some, like Bangkok Palace, are cheaper and better. Others like Sent Sovi are more expensive and better. Pros: location, decor, restrooms Cons: almost bland food more

Tasteless food for too much $ and a grumpy waiter 11/4/2005

We went to Viaggio for the first time last night (solely because we couldn't get in at The Basin down the street). Aside from poor quality filet mignon, the scallops in the seafood pasta were chewy, tasted metallic and left a horrible after taste. When we alerted the waiter, he offered to bring us more shrimp instead (thanks?) and didn't take a cent off the bill. Combine that with mediocre wine, half foam beers and an hour long wait for our meals and well... you see where this is going. There are lots of great restaurants in Saratoga. This is not one of them. If tempted to enter (as we were) by the fact that they had space for us at 7PM on a Friday night, pause to consider why that might be, and then RUN the other way. Pros: Pianist Cons: Poor quality seafood, Overpriced more

Wonderful 12/3/2003

I went to Viaggio on a first date and was unexpectedly surprised. This restaurant is beautiful!! The food was great (especially the Spinach Salad and Paella) and the service was prompt, friendly and effficient. The wine list had many local wines, and our server explained the support that wineries give Viaggio...and Viaggio gives to the wineries. Saratoga seems to be a very friendly community, not just a bunch of snooty executives and pretentious restaurants. I have dined at Viaggio three times now and attended their Thursday night wine tastings. Judge Viaggio for yourself...you'll be surprised. Pros: Local Wines, Underrated Food, Friendly Service more

Wonderful Banquet 2/14/2003

We had a banquet dinner here on Tuesday night, for a group of 15. They did a wonderful job. People started arriving 30 min's early, and it was no problem. The room was set-up and ready to go, the waiter was there and started serving drinks, the appetizers where brought out within 15 min's - nothing was a problem. The food was excellent, the service (on waiter and a busboy) was outstanding, and the value was also excellent. These where 15 hard to impress people, and everyone was raving. We will definitely be back - I highly recommend for a banquet. more

Food - Excellent, Service - Questionable 1/20/2003

Previously, we dined at Viaggio for special occasions. We had a wonderful experience everytime. Several years ago, we decided to have a luncheon at Viaggio. Upon arrival the day of the luncheon, the restaurant was set aside for a wedding. They said that they couldn't serve us and that there was no reservation. We told them we had made reservations yet they didn't offer to accomodate us. The push over the cliff was the disrespect towards my father by the Host/Manager. He asked, ""We have guests and we have a reservation. What's going to happen to us?"" Host: ""That's not my problem. I have a wedding reception and you're the least of my problems."" After searching the reservation records, they found our reservation and we were seated. No apology was offered, nor was he apologetic for his conduct. We have decided to not return to the restaurant since that time. more

OVERPRICED for the quality 11/30/2002

The food was good, but woefully overpriced considering the quality. There are many places in the Bay Area that charge less for mroe artfully prepared food My Seafood dish was overcooked and chewy, and my date's filet was too salty. If everything were $5-$10 cheaper, I would have given this place higher ratings, but for the price it could (and should) have been a perfect meal. more

Perfection 7/26/2002

The Staff is very friendly and the service is great! Viaggio is by far the best; it keeps me coming back for more. more
