Best Cuban food 4/23/2010

Versailles has the best cuban food. It is one place to eat when you are on Ventura and looking for something new. The parking isn't that great but the food is worth it. The shredded pork is the best meal there, and their lunch specials are superb. Pros: food more

Have had better at the other locations 10/16/2008

This is not one of the better locations. The one on Venice and the one in Manhattan Beach are alot better. Service could have been a whole lot better. Pros: Good food Cons: Bad service more

Recommended only for the fried plantains 5/5/2008

The fried plaintains are so good! They cut them in pieces about the size of your finger and they're not greasy at all. Very sweet and delicious. I've ordered the shrimp and rice (average), the pork sandwich (meat good, bread not good), the ham croquettes (NASTY), and the chicken soup (average). The restaurant has absolutely no ambience and crappy tables and chairs. If they got rid of the fried plaintains I would never eat there again. more

Not as good as Versaille on Venice Blvd. 3/25/2008

Tried this restaurant - ordered my favorite Garlic Chicken/Pork combo plate. Was disappointed, pales in comparison to the same at the WLA location on Venice Blvd. Service was gruff, although the food came to the table quickly enough (group of 7), won't come back here - will go to WLA. Pros: In the valley Cons: Doesn't live up the the Restaurant on Venice Blvd. more

We would certainly not recommend Versailles in Encino, Ca! Stay away from this restaurant!! 3/23/2007

We would certainly not recommend Versailles in Encino, Ca! Stay away from this restaurant!! Terrible waiters, sloppy, impolite...poor management down to the ownership. Pitiful! Our group just came back from Versailles, after hearing glowing reports and reading all these great reviews. Our group was looking forward to a lovely dinner in that we all grew up on Cuban food, we couldn't wait. All that changed with a rude waiter, watered down sangria (who raved about this??? Although I notice on this site others report watered down drinks, isn't this pathetic!!!) And the food!! Bland, definitely below average, my kid could cook better!! The empanadas (the turn overs with either spinach, chicken or guava) are a pathetic, overcooked, tasteless joke on the true art of the word! \r So...what is going on here??? Why all these raving reviews??? It really makes me suspicious...either the waiters are playing favorites, bringing some people decent food, others not...or all these just write ups from friends. Either way spells trouble!\r Please do not accept this type of service, standard and quality...whether it is here or any other restaurant. If you have a bad experience, we do recommend you bring this to the notice of those in charge. We did this, only to find defensive response, unapologetic stances...from management right down to the owner. There are so many great restaurants out there, Versailles needs to know that if they want to remain in business and be catered by the public, they must change their act, attitude, service and most definitely...get better cooks! Until this changes...find another Cuban restaurant!! But don't go to Versailles in Encino! Pros: There are other Cuban restaurants in L.A. Cons: Service, Food, Watered Down Drinks, Bad Management and Ownership more

Excellent for a quick bite to eat or a long, relaxing stay 1/8/2007

The eclectic Cuban-style food comes quickly at this place, and the service is both humble and friendly. The sangria is delicious and the atmosphere is at once upbeat and mellow. I really liked the arroz con pollo and the famous garlic chicken. Mixed with the beans and sweet plantains, the spices and roasted meat were divine. Pros: Delicious food and great service Cons: Pricey sangria more

good chicken, better platanos 11/17/2006

The chicken and black rice is very good, mix it up with the platanos and it's even better. Their sangria is pretty good, but a bit pricey. more

Chicken only please! 8/7/2006

As a seafood vegetarian, this was a wrong place to go. I am sure their signature chicken dishes are what attract the crowds, but the various seafood dishes were less than friendly to my pallet. Pros: spacious Cons: their seafood more

Good Cuban dishes, hearty portions 7/7/2006

I've been several Versailles locations and have not been disappointed. Although the decor is old and the tables are ancient, I've never been disappointed with any of the dishes. The people that frequent this type of establishments ranges from young to old across differing ethnicities. I personally like the fried plaintains served with the rice. I've tried the beef, pork, and chicken dishes and they are all good. I usually get the garlic chicken but have mixed it up quite a bit from time to time. The food can be somewhat salty at times but other than than I do not have any gripes. Service is pretty good and prompt. Parking can be difficult at times, depending on the location and time. I've recommended the restaurant to various people and they have not been disappointed. This would be in the high 8s. Pros: Casual atmosphere, hearty portions Cons: Parking more

average food, nothing too special 1/22/2006

i dined at versailles a little while ago and ordered the garlic chicken, which seemed to be the popular item on the menu. I was expecting a flavorful sauce that lived up to the hype..instead it was more like italian dressing. The plaintains got soggy after sitting in the ""sauce"" and that didn't help them out either. Overall the food was average but it's nothing I would make a trip back for. Pros: quick service, good value Cons: chicken was dry more

Dry fried chicken for $10 is too much 12/11/2005

Although they do have freindly staff and the food arrives really fast it does not worth the visit to anyone who actually likes food. Very dry 1/2 chicken plate with steamed white rice for $10 is too much. Their garlic bread is made from the cheapest bagguets with burned oils. They suace is good but that you can buy in bottles they sell. We ordered 4 dishes all where extremely dry from over frying. Pros: garlic lemon sauce, service, parking Cons: very dry food, too much for what you, get more

Delicious food cheap 1/26/2005

This place has delicious food at a really cheap price. I normally go for dinner and get the Rib-eye (hint: if you want medium, ask for medium rare and so on) and I always ask for their garlic sauce on the side to have with my steak....YUM!!!! And yes, if you like garlic, this is the place to go! The decor is an old family style restaurant so don't expect much but do go for the food. Pros: Inexpensive, Parking lot/meters more

gotta love garlic! 9/27/2004

if you're a garlic lover, or a cuban food lover, that's your restaurant. Cheap, kitch 70s decor with mirrors and friendly staff... did I mention the excellent Cuban Food, it's a must. Pros: excellent food, cheap more

Great Chicken 9/2/2003

We tried this place a few weeks ago, due to suggestions from friends as well as posts read here. We agree with thoses placing a positive review as we enjoyed the chicken with onions and lemon - garlic sauce. The sides of rice/beans was lightly flavored allowing the taste of the roasted chicken with sauce to shine. The bananas were a bit overcooked as other have mentioned, but that was the only negative to our visit. The food here (chicken lunch) is about $10 or so with a non-alcoholic beverage, so we felt it represented a fair to good value. We will return here, and suggest you give them a try if in the area. Pros: Food, Service more

Delicious and cheap 6/9/2003

This restaurant has the best Cuban food most of the time you have to make a line to get in but it is quite worth it. The food is wonderfully delicious I specially like the 1/2 chicken with a garlic and onion sauce, it's delicious it also has rice, black beans and fried plantain. DELICIOUS you should also try their cafe con leche. Pros: excellent food, good prices Cons: crowded but worth it more

FIRST TIME THERE - VERY SATISFIED! 5/24/2003

I read one review here where someone complains about a watered down tequila shots. Also in the same review, no parking, and bad service. I was reluctant but went with my family who had their heart set. I discovered they don't serve hard liquor (wine and beer only), have valet parking ($1.50), and the service was superior. The large portioned, excellent food was positively worth the 20 minute wait (just what they said it would be). Pros: food is great Cons: but moro was dry, no hard liquor more

Delicious and such a deal 2/9/2003

so tasty so good, the chicken with garlic and lemons is so good and you won't find a better deal in the valley for something like that. more

Pretty good Cuban food 2/7/2003

Versailles is one of those places where you get a good meal for a good price. I've never had Cuban food before, but after trying Versailles I was hooked. Pros: Decent Prices, Good Service Cons: Parking more
