Veritas Winery & Vineyard

My wife and I stopped by Veritas the other day for the first time and could not have asked for a better tasting experience! The walk through the vines from the parking lot was a wonderful way to get in touch with the very same grapes we were about to enjoy in the glass. It being a weekday, we were one of only a few couples at the tasting room bar. We were dutifully waited on by Page, who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the wines. We did the full white and red flights and enjoyed a delicious cheese platter afterwards. As residents of Northern Virginia, we're big local wine fans, though we weren't too familiar with Veritas and the other Charlottesville wineries. Boy were we surprised! I think the white wines were the real winners of the day: the Viognier, and Sauvignon Blanc were both top-notch, and we left with more than a few bottles! After whiling away the afternoon on the deck, sipping rosé and nibbling on cheese, we agreed that Veritas will be a regular stop when we're in the area. A great find! more

Thank you Veritas for the outstanding rehearsal dinner on July 23, 2010. We enjoyed working with Chloe in planning the event. She was so easy to work with and so professional it made it all seamless and satisyfying. The cocktail hour was superb with delicious hors d'oeuvres served by your efficient staff. We had a choice of very nice wines with beer and cocktails also available. Everyone got to relax the in great room and enjoy the beautiful views of the vineyard. At our agreed time -- on the dot -- we all moved into the dining room where the tables were set and decorated perfectly for the event. Thank you Chloe for preparing a menu (last minute request!) that was displayed on each plate. The food and service was perfect and the wines were superb with each course. The "special" presentation of each course by the wait staff was very entertaining. Thanks for the help in setting up the sound system and screen (by AVI) which allowed us to enjoy nice dinner music, an enjoyable slide show of the bride and groom to be, and some wonderful and memorable toasts! We have received unanimous rave reviews of the evening by all who attended. As some said: "It was like being in a movie!" That says it all -- Great Job!! more

Thank you Veritas for making our wedding such a special day for our family. Everything was done beautifully. I cannot think of a single thing that could have been improved upon and even the weather cooperated! The event manager Chloe was spectacular, but I want to give a special thanks to the wait captain (I hope I have the correct title) but it was the man running everything. I think his name was Karl. He was wonderful, amazingly organized and proficient. A true gem.  All the wait staff were very, very, helpful throughout the evening. Our guests commented on the excellent food which, having eaten at Veritas, was no surprise to us but was a very pleasant surprise to everyone else. The Veritas staff made yesterday evening run so smoothly and apparently effortlessly despite all the very hard work on everyone's part. Fabulous venue, fabulous staff. more

We had our wedding at VERITAS in June 2010. The food, wine, and service were all good until we cut the cake. I went to wash my hands and left my wedding band in the bathroom, I went back 5 minutes later and it was not there. It was anonymously returned to the vineyard later that month and placed in the mailbox, with no postage on the envelope, with a note stating that it was mine. The ring had been altered, to be resold, and was basically ruined. According to one of the employees only the mailman and other employees know where the mailbox is located. I contacted the owner, who had no idea this event occurred, and I asked him if he would be willing to pay for the repair. Since it seemed that one of his employees was involved and it was my wedding night, I thought that he would be apologetic and try to help me rectify the situation. However, he said that he would NOT pay for it, and would contact his lawyer to see if he was liable. NICE! The repair to the ring cost $400, and we spent $30K at the vineyard. Greed is a powerful emotion and you don’t have to worry about me, my wife, or anyone we know ever going back there for anything ever. more

Every time I have visited Veritas, I hope that I will have a good experience. I never do. The wines aren't great and the staff ignores you. I'm not sure if it is because I am pretty young or if they are rude to everyone, but it really isn't fun. They will pour the wine and not even tell you what it is let alone something about the grapes or the vintage. The tasting room is beautiful, and so is the land, but from now on I will drive right past Veritas on my way to Afton. more

I have visited the tasting room here several times and it is absolutely gorgeous, but the tasting room employees are rude and the wines are not that good. I had a bad experience here with a tasting room employee who completely ignored me and the group I was with while he tasted the wine himself. I was so upset that I wrote a letter to the owne, who apologized, but I still will not return here. more
