Hi Everybody who has been to Venus Modern Arts!!\r I just have a question about tongue piercings. Can somebody tell me about a tongue piercing experience at Venus? I am considering having that done, other than my ears i haven't had any other type of piercings. I have been doing my research online, but the more i read, the more afraid I get. So please send your reviews as well as if the shop would like to contribute any additional info. I am definitely getting my tattoos done with Rhonda, since everyone is singing her praises. I got my tattoo on Valentine's Day with Logan. He is a superb artist- if you care at all about the detail in your tattoo, seek his advice. He is incredibly meticulous with his craft and will sit down with you (over several meetings) to perfect the design. The establishment is committed to fulfilling whatever it is youd prefer- ive been to several places that have told me that the intricacy of my design was too difficult to do because of the size but Logan made it happen. If youre looking for no-nonsense meaningful drawings, go to Venus, ask for Logan... bring him cookies. more

I recently got a big piece of work done by Ronda and it was something I have been researching for a while. I looked at other places and because of the great reviews about Venus and Ronda I decided to try the place out. I met with Ronda for the first time about a month ago and she really helped me figure out exactly what I wanted. She put alot of time in drawing it and when it finally came out on paper I really liked what she did. I have to say after 3 sittings I feel like I made the best decision in choosing Ronda. She has thus far made my tattoo to look absolutely beautiful, I should only have one more sitting left. I can't say enough about it!! I love my new tattoo and can't wait to get more, only by Ronda. She is really a perfectionist with her work and knows what she is doing. She is a really cool person and made the time go by fast. I've been going to venus once a week now for over a year, I get all my ink done by Ronda. I've had work done all over the country and there's no one more talented and experienced than Ronda. I came to her with a concept and she brought it to fruition. Finding a good artist is like finding a good doctor, once you find a good one you never want to see anyone else. I recommend Ronda to all but especially those who are looking to get that big piece done that you've always wanted but can't quite get it right in your mind. She 's the best in the business. Got a tattoo last week at Venus. Ronda was outstanding. She worked with me for two hours on various design ideas until we had something I was happy with (the tattoo is of my son's name; I had a rough idea of what I wanted but needed to improve upon it) and did excellent work during the actual tattooing process. I am very happy with the experience and would definitely recommend her to others. more

I usually get all of my work done in my home state of CT where I've been going to the same place for a couple of years, so when I looked for a new one in New York I wanted something clean, someone I could trust, and a place I could definitely use again and again. This is it. I went a month ago and Ronda took my friend and I as walk-ins, made us feel really comfortable and we both had a great experience. She's cooky but very friendly, and I could tell by her other clients that this was someone I'd be satisfied with. She listened to what I wanted and did a great job, I'm very excited, thanks, Ronda! I can't wait to book my next appointment. My only vice is that the normal price is a little expensive, but it is New York and I'd rather be safe than cheap and sorry. I have been tattooed by Ronda three times now. her work is awesome, she has a good personality which makes the time go fast, and she was ontime for all of the appointments. I only hesitate to recommend her because I want to make sure I can book a session without waiting a month! Pros: great artist, nice person Cons: on the expensive side, but amortized over the rest of my life not a big deal more

To address another person's comment - I am one of the people who have only written one review, but I signed up specifically because I just had to comment on Ronda's work! It was my first tattoo, and I am also a very traditional girl, so I was somewhat apprehensive about who to go to and I didn't really know what to expect. Ronda was so patient in helping me make a choice. And that's not even the most important part. What matters is that I have an absolutely stunning tat that I love. It is everything I had my mind set on and more!! It also healed beautifully - about a week with no problems whatsoever. So all I have to say is hey, even if you end up waiting a little, Ronda is well worth it and she sure does a great job!!! Thank you, Ronda!!! Pros: Ronda is a great artist. The shop is clean. more

I just wanted to write and let everyone know how great Ronda is!!! I live in Michigan and visited NYC for the first time about 3 yrs ago. I found Ronda on Citysearch and got my first tat done by her and it was wonderful. My friend that came with me also got one and loved it. About a year later I came back to NYC and I took another friend of mine to get one done with her as well. That one turned out great as well. Now just 2 Saturdays ago I flew out to NYC again specifically to see Ronda. I had gotten a tattoo done in Mi on my foot that was horrible and in order to get it covered RIGHT, i set out to see Ronda. I made an appointment about a month in advance and flew out to see her no problem. For all you people below that said she was rude and didn't set up appointments right - I did not have any of those problems. Timing was perfect down to a T and she did a wonderful job. I had no idea how I wanted to cover the tat and she worked with me for about 4 hours just drawing and making sure I was happy with what she did. I loved what I ended up with. She did a wonderful job. The old tat looks like it was never there. I have recommended two people to her already and we have 4 tats between us and everyone was happy. Apparently Venus closes at 9pm. I walked in a little after 8:30pm. to what appeared to be a one woman operation. The woman behind the counter was Corinne, as she introduced herself to me as the manager (and I assume the bald guy with the beard that kept staring at me was her boyfriend). I asked if there was still time to get a piercing done because I really wanted to get my tongue ring. She was adament that this was not going to happen. She basically talked me out of getting what I really wanted (with a promise of getting my tongue done at another time for 1/2 price) and demanded that I pay with cash, no credit at that time. Then a little to my surprise, she comes from around the counter to lead me into the piercing room. No other staff, just manager, piercer, counter person all rolled into one. I really felt that the job was rushed and I was totally taken advantage of. When she was done with the piercing she pretty much demanded a large tip, stating that she had saved me almost half off the price of the jewelry and the piercing. I don't know why, but I tipped her as well and after leaving the premises with no reciept I felt totally ripped off and was sure that my money never made it to the register, although that's not my call to make. All in all, I would never go back there ever again. Even if Corinne did honor her bogus promise of a 1/2 off tongue ring... Pros: None that I can think of. Cons: Actually walking into the store through the glass doors. more

I'd been looking at other tattoo parlors before I found this place, and I just didn't feel comfortable anywhere else. As soon as i stepped into the store i felt much better: the staff is pleasant and helpful, and the place is clean. Ronda, especially, was accomodating and patient--and quite a character. She might come off as scattered and flaky sometimes but she definitely knows what she's doing and when she starts working she's all business. I came in for my first tattoo and even though i didn't choose one of Ronda's original designs she was very helpful in making suggestions, adjustments, etc., and the finished design came out absolutely beautifully. Ultimately it comes down to whether you feel comfortable with the people working with you; check the place out and I'm sure you won't have many misgivings about going there. more

i dont know who wrote the last post on rhonda, but she was GREAT. i just got my first tattoo there and she is very talented and has been doing this for 19 years. she studied illustration at FIT and my tattoo was relatively painless and quick (even though the area i was getting it at is supposedly the most painful area). i highly recommend going to rhonda. more

I had a simply wonderful time recently at Venus Modern Body arts with Corinne the weekday piercer and I believe manager. I went in for an industrial piercing and the shop was quite busy but it was all so friendly no one seemed to mind. The shop has some lovely art on the walls now and theres a full illustrated story in the back to keep you busy as well. Corinne introduced everyone to each other, it was almost like being at an exclusive mixer. I met some very entertaining people while i chose my jewelry. I was fitted for the bar then choose end pieces for it, they have a marvelous selection, I choose small white gold and diamond flower ends. Corinne gave me a witty speech on after care ( its on the receipt as well ) then we went into the private room to do the piercing. I was nervous but Corinne is so very reassuring and soothing. She taught me how to breathe in order to relax, something that I am just doing now every time I am stressed out! The place is immaculate and her technique is gentile. I spoke with one of their jewelers Kevin while I was there about making some custom designs, Venus is the only place in New York that you can this type of skilled customer service with genuine warmth and caring behind it . I had a wonderful time there and cant wait for my next project Pros: beautiful designs and very pleasant staff more

WARNING: I just did some sleuthing. All of the people who reviewed Venus and highly recommended it have only written one review - for Venus. This signifies to me that someone connected with the shop is creating different profiles and highly recommending it in order to attract business. Please keep that in mind if you are browsing for recommended tattoo artists!\r \r I had a very frustrating time with Rhonda when I tried to get work done last year. The $50 deposit was the only thing stringing along, and I resented that a lot. She is incredibly flaky. She canceled my appointment 3 times - the third time I rescheduled with her husband and manager (or whatever), he guaranteed that I'd get that appointment. 2 hours before the appointment, he called and said it would be pushed back to 9ish from 6. He said he'd call me and let me know when I should come over. He never called, so at the suggestion of my friend, I just headed over there to wait it out. It was 10pm by then. Ronda was working on someone else, and didn't wrap up until 11:30. She and her husband seemed kind of annoyed that I'd come over without them telling me to, but I was getting frustrated because I'd already been strung along for a month at that point.\r \r Finally at midnight, Ronda lets me in, and starts setting up. She cracks open an NATTY ICE. It made me really uncomfortable to be getting tattooed at midnight by someone drinking a beer. Really old school, I guess.\r \r Anyway, the actual tattoo came out pretty well. A few months later, I came in to get it retouched cause the color didn't come out in some places. She canceled on me a few more times, but by then I was used to it. Overall, I would not recommend going to her because of the simple fact that she cannot keep to her schedule. It's just not worth it. First tattoo. Went to NY for a visit. Thought it would be a good time to get my first tattoo. Did a lot of research and found an ""artist"". Well the artist was rude, unprofessional and flaky. After many unreturned calls, finally got a time nailed down. Went in and was told she was sick. Rhonda came in and looked completely wired and breezed right past me without so much as a 'hello, I will be with you in a few minutes'. Nope, after waiting longer I finally decided enough was enough. I may not have a big name but I was still a client. I wanted my designs and deposit. I did get my designs, but no return money. Would you want someone to work on you if they were 'sick?'. Almost turned me off tattoos totally but I did end up with a professional, considerate ARTIST in Queens. more

In a predominantly harsh attitude, inflexible ego-driven machismo world, Ronda blew into Venus studio like a breath of fresh air on rollerblades. She Rocks. I was honestly so surprised to be greeted with her kindness and enthusiasm to brainstorm about the best ideas for doing a touch up to a foot tattoo of mine..which many tattoo artists more or else rudely refuse to do, out of fear. It is completely clear that for Ronda, doing any tattoo, be it a cover or touch up, pre-designed, or brand new concept peice, is a rewarding and important creative process.\r I am a visual artist myself and recognized immediately her strengths, not only in her portfolio, but her confidence to make a beautiful tattoo no matter what. She thinks outside the box, never told me no ""that can't be done"" (which I came across alot) and she respected my opinion and dreams for what the tattoo should and could be. That is sooooo important!! many tattoo artist forget that the client does have some say in what is going to be inked on them for life, she really worked with my ideas, made me feel confortable to express them and was not threatened by them in the least.
