I had a lot a fun with a group of friends. The drinks were OK. They have great deals on the website. It doesnt matter if you are straight or gay. I had a pizza that tastes like Little Ceasars. UGH. OK ..I too really wanted to like this place. ans I did ...however.. The food was a bit bland! OWNER, if you read this DSO something about it. I will give it one more shot. I live in Oak Park and WANT to like the food. I had the pizza (Margarita) It tasted like tomatoes, cheese and bread sandwich that was warmed up. Walk in and the music is hot, place looks nice. Had a fun night until the end when we're about to get our bill... The bartender tells us that the shots that are advertised as being $1 are actually $6 but that we should feel special because they're normally $7. We had to point out to the bartender what the specials of the night actually were because he didn't even know. He then had to go talk to the manager/owner who came and talked to us. We had never been to that bar before and he explained that when the special says ""$1 lemon drop shots"" that it doesn't really mean that... unless you specifically tell the bartender that you want the cheap special shot, they just make you the regular one. Now trust me I've been to a LOT of bars, and never once have if a special says ""this shot is the special"" did I have to specify that that's what I wanted. A special is a special, and not a shot of lemon water... to get talked to by the owner like you are retarded is absolutely absurd. And to add to that, we hear all night about a special raffle that's going on and to win a free drink of your choice and to write your name on the raffle ticket that you got when you walked in the door. Well we didn't receive one and so I watched the door. Every black person that walked in got raffle tickets and when someone white walked in, they didn't get one. Being a business owner in Oak Park, I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone in the area or visiting unless you like to be treated like you're less of a person. I love going to the Velvet Rope on Friday Nights for Karaoke with Creoke! The Dj is fantastic and everyone really gets into it. The food is fabulous as well, they just added some new things, like the Baked Lobster Macaroni. Its delicious and creamy with large chunks of lobster. Yummy. As for drinks, I highly reccomend the Pomegranate Martini or a Velvepolitan. Both are delectable. Prices are fair and the staff is friendly and enthusiastic. The atmosphere is just all around fun. Its definitly a great place to relax or party, regardless of the night. If you've never been, ask to go upstairs! They also reserve space for parties which is nice. This is a neat little lounge bar in the middle of downtown Oak Park. The owner is really enthusiastic about the business and personally greets each person that comes in. Drink prices are more comparable to Chicago ($9 for a martini), but the atmosphere more than makes up for it. No twinkies or nazifems (yet) invade the place so it is a nice place to relax with some friends and have a drink. Pros: Brilliant place, well done! more
