Great Local Chicago-land Vineyard and Winery!! 11/27/2010

I recently visited Valentino Vineyards and had a really great experience. \r \r I was able to take in the breath-taking views of the Vineyard as I walked down the gravel drive. I was kindly greeted by the owners as I entered the wine tasting building. The owners acknowledged me as they were checking out other customers. Once they were finished they explained how the wine tasting works: 5 types of wine for 10$ with full descriptions and suggestions for pairing with foods. I really enjoyed Mr. Valentino's passion for wine-making. He and his wife treated me as if I was already a lifelong friend. The wines were excellent! They were very flavorful and were not lacking quality. You cannot find wines like this in your local grocery store. I was really surprised to learn so much about wine and the wine making process. I was especially excited to learn that the wines are low in sulfites... YEAH!!! No more headaches for me!!\r I think I may become one of Valentino Vineyard's regular customers!\r \r I definitely suggest you try Valentino Vineyards Out. \r \r A++ \r more

Superb tasting wine 2/1/2009

My husband and I frequently visit Italy and have had some outstanding wines in the Tuscan region. I was very surprised to taste a wine that was grown and made at Valentino Vineyards that had the same authenticity. Perhaps it's their Italian heritage and the love for their craft, that you can taste in every glass that you drink. \r \r Our favorite is is the red port which the owner said is fortified with cognac. Fantastic! \r \r Looking forward to our next visit to Valetino Vineyards. more

Beautiful vineyard and great tasting wine 1/30/2009

My husband and I went to Valentino VIneyeards for a tasting. I was pleasantly surprised to taste such wonderful wine created in Northern Illinois. The wines taste like they come from Italy. We bought several bottles, my husband's favorite is the St. Croix and mine is the Signature. You have to go to the vineyard to see the beautiful vines. I met the friendly owners Rudolph Valentino and his wife Vivian, and you can tell that they have extreme passion about what they do. Pros: everything! more

Valentino not fit for human consumption... 10/25/2008

Where should I begin...do not be fooled by the beautiful rolling vineyards that line the drive at Valentino Winery. We hoped that it would be a fruitful experience, but we were sorely disappointed. Upon entering the winery we were slowly greeted by the owners Rudy and Veronica. We were told about how they took care in their winemaking and how everything was all-natural and unfiltered. We were excited to try the first of 5 wines we would be tasting. Upon first sniff, we were shocked. Had I opened a bottle of this at home, I would have thought it had oxidized beyond safe consumption almost on the way to brandy. This was for their Bianca wine. Thinking this was just a one-wine problem was a mistake. EVERY WINE tasted like a fortified port! Their Reserva Chianti didn't resemble the real thing in the least. After 4 tastings we finally arrived at the absolutely AWFUL Red Port. They said it had ""chocolate"" flavors, it actually had eau de purina dog chow. The group I was with could not even look at one another and could barely stomach the incredibly anemic pours that they gave for $8 per person! We had hoped that this would be a good experience here in Northern Illinois, however we felt that it was almost a practical joke. Are people actually buying their wine? I would be embarrassed to give one as a gift. Do not waste your time stopping here. I seriously wonder if their wine is actually safe to drink. Pros: Beautiful Vineyard Cons: Everything else more
