Editorial review from Citysearch 4/27/2013

I see some negative reviews here which surprise me somewhat. I've been taking my pets here for over 8 years with nothing but superior care, compassion, and respect from staff.\r I do wish they had an Avian specialist. It would greatly help those of us who have Exotic birds, who are in trouble. This is very frustrating. I know first hand.\r I go to Dr. Serrano at Ocean Beach .... She is the very best of the best as far as I am concerned. When my dog gets ill, she is even considerate enough to call me at home to see if he is getting better. You can not beat care like this anywhere!!! more

VCA killed two of my rabbits. Please, do NOT take your pets here! 8/18/2010

Do NOT take your pets here! Malisha Serrano killed two of my rabbits consecutively while attempting to neuter. My first rabbit's death was blamed on a rare allergy to the anesthesia used. I believed Serrano and decided it would be safe to take another rabbit there, assuming he was not rarely allergic also. My second rabbit's death was blamed on him choking because of regurgitating food he had eaten earlier that day, after given anesthesia. Rabbits do not need to be fasted before surgery, or at anytime. Later, after talking to other veterinarians and doing my own research, I learned that rabbits cannot regurgitate, period, it is a unique aspect of their anatomy. So not only were two of my babies killed by Serrano, I was also lied to about how the deaths occurred. I suspect that they were over medicated because of Serrano's lack of knowledge about rabbits. I have rabbits again, and I now take them to Southwest Animal Hospital, in Beaverton, Or, to Dr. Burgess (who is very educated and a more

NOT A GOOD PLACE TO TAKE ANYONE'S FAMILY MEMBER 7/3/2009

I have only went to this vet because my husband went there when we met. Since then I have taken over taking the animals to the vet. It is ridiculous the pricing, and the cold attitude from the front desk. I had found a new vet and asked to get the records of my dog. Their first question is "Are you going to another vet?" I told them that I was looking and that I would also need her X-Rays. They told me that I could take them, but I had to bring them back. I asked why, since I paid for them. They told me that it is a medical document and that they need them back. I told them OK and took them. Every time I went in there to get a check up on my dog, I didn't walk out of their less than $150.00 at a time. Just for a look over and vaccines. when they did do the"testing" they took her in the back room, and I was not allowed back there with her. I didn't like that so much.So No I would not recommend this vet to anyone. I was recommended to a vet out of Washington and I her this place is wond more

No longer a good place to go 3/17/2009

Ever since this clinic was sold to VCA it has turned into a cold nightmare of a place. My dogs are treated like meat and my feelings are never EVER considered. They scoop your beloved pet from your arms and disappear into another room for "treatment". My pets have gotten infected from this place, they're not clean.\r \r To sum it up. The staff are not connecting with the clients. The pets are not treated well, the prices are outrageous since all the newbie vets have to pay for their college loans. Nobody cares about anything but their next car payment. Boy oh boy is that lot full of expensive cars owned by the vets and staff.\r \r Look elsewhere for a better vet. I sure will. more

Billed for no service! 10/22/2008

I had the extreme misfortune of needing an aviary vet in an emergency situation and was unable to find one in my area. My mother has a goreous, and until two weeks ago, healthy blue and gold Macaw parrot. When Tutu was found on the bottom of her cage one morning we rushed around trying to find her help. We were led to VAC Ocean Beach Vets and were told that there was a "SPECIALIST" in Avian health and care there. We made the 2 hour journey and we met by a filthy environment, feelingless staff and cold hearted avain vet. When we took Tutu into the room and the vet arrived, Tutu was glaced at, flipped around to face the vet and not further evaluated. We were then told that they were unable to weigh her and they assumed she had ingested lead and they would not even begin steps towards diagnosis or treament without half of $1500 and would require the other half when we picked her up three days later. We attempted to make payment arrangements and the vet walked out of the room and did no other consult or assistance from that moment on. There was no offer of a antibiotic or anything else in our budget nor did she offer any advice for home care. There was just NOTHING! We got more information, advice and assistance from the internet and our own vet, ( a dog and cat vet, Larry Goza ) and from Gary Rider at the Bird Channel and Macaw forum than we did from this so called specialist. Then this office actually had the GAUL to call and ask us to return and make a payment for an office visit of $68.00 ( they had quoted us $63.00 on the phone before we arrived) and have since sent my mother a bill. They also wanted $140 for an x-ray which our vet did for $20. It is very sad that there still exsist people who are so much about the financial gain that they continuously forget about the care of the creature. How sad for her and her office and staff. Pros: none Cons: staff put cash above client and payment above pets! more

VCA in Longview WA 7/25/2008

I will never take another animal here again! They almost killed my 2 beloved border collies because of the filth and disease that runs rampant behind closed doors; I ended up spending over $3000.00 at another vet to get them over the disease they contracted while at VCA. \r I also was stupid enough to take my persian cat in for a skin irritation on her neck. Her coat measures 3-6" in length at any given time and they sent my cat home completly bald! They sedated her without my permission and shaved her from head to tail for a small cut on her neck that covered a 1/2" square area; what bothered me the most about that is the fact that my cat also has epilepsy which they were treating her for so they knew she didn't need the added stress! Beware OBAH and their incompetent staff! more

Poor reception staff 7/12/2005

The front office staff at this establishment wasn't the greatest. I sat and waited while they helped another client and they never even attempted eye contact. That should be in Customer Service 101. Maybe they need some classes. I wasn't too happy with their greeting. more
