avoid VCA 12/16/2015

I have been going to Burton Veterinary Hospital since 1996. Dr. Hrdlicka was head then and later on Dr. Borger took over. Dr. Borger is still here but this is now a VCA verterinary hospital. Prices have increased substantially. Last year n 2014, for my cat an exam was 35. Now under VCA it is 48. Last year a fecal exam was24.09; now under VCA it is 37.99! Mary Ann and other staff have resigned. There used to be 5-6 veterinarians on staff and now there are 3. This is a corporate take over of local veterinary care. Needless to say I am looking for another vet. more

A racket DO NOT TRUST 8/23/2013

Dishonest in every way which brings about huge veterinary bills, you will wait hours for a vet who might not have even arrived at the job yet--they reschedule repeatedly like you do not have any kind of other time commitments--THe owner veterinarian has a very selective and dishonest memory. Calls his expensive services "favors" when any complaint is voiced. manipulative, money-grubbing this clinic has no care for animals whatsoever, just creating unnecessary tests, harmful treatments where euthanasia the only option once all the money has been tapped from pet owner, If you like sustaining pain and suffering for your pets at exorbitant fees, this is the place for you-- more

Love them! 11/2/2010

We just love Burton Vet Clinic! They have taken care of our dogs since when they were located in the other place. We have seen all the doctors, and especially like Dr. McKinney!!! The entire staff is caring and compassionate! We have thought about switching from time to time due to the cost, but in the end, we only trust our puppies to Burton Vet! They are worth every dime! more

Welcome to the real world 3/12/2010

Who cares about who owns the clinic? As for your Pomeranian, perhaps the surgery was scheduled for the afternoon, which certainly would have left your dog "out of it", as you say. Surgery is a serious thing, and any reasonable person would expect his dog to experience some sort of side effects from it. It seems clear to me that your major concern was the extra money you paid for the "emergency vet". You didn't mention what the emergency vet diagnosed - perhaps an over-reaction on your part? And, no, I don't ever recall having been delayed a hostpital discharge by a coherency test or missing bowel movement. In case you haven't noticed, University Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic don't accept dogs as patients. I suppose that would fly in the face of your "what makes an animal any different" reasoning. Yes, veterinarians are different from people doctors. Hello!!! Most vets don't offer overnight emergency care - if you want that, then go to a Specialty clinic. Your choice. B more

All about money... 2/5/2010

It is no longer owned by Leo Hrdlicka. I brought my 3.9# pom for neutering. Brought him in at 8:15 am - picked him up at 5:15 pm. He was awake but out of it when I picked him up, I figured they didn't neuter him until later in the day. As the evening progressed he was getting more out of it, which concerned me. I called them at 9:30pm and they were gone for the day, so I called the emergency number that their recording gave me and it was for Great Lakes Vet in Bedford Hgts. I had to take him there instead which cost me another $170 over and above what the neuter cost. I feel this should have been Burton Vet's responsiblity, when we are operated on we aren't sent home until we are coherent and had a bowel movement, what makes an animal any different. I think they are all about money and really don't care if your animal survives. When I went back to Burton Vet the next morning, Dr. Borger told me that they send them home because they do not have anyone to watch them and they don more

Best Doctors and staff 1/8/2009

Everyone in this establishment is first class in my book! I recommend them to anyone looking for exceptional veterinary care for their pets. The Doctors Borger are the most caring and knowledgeable around and the staff is so friendly, gentle and concerned. Mary Ann, Eileen and Becky have been there many years and I know my dog Rena always gets the best treatment. She has had surgery for compressed disks and spinal stenosis so she can walk again(referred to an orthopedic surgeon by Dr. Borger) She now sometimes has problems with back and leg pain. Burton Vets have always been able to find a solution to make her comfortable again. Our heartfelt thanks to all! more

Very happy!! 1/7/2009

We adopted a cat, and then a few months later, 2 dogs from humane societies throughout Cleveland. While we lived on the west side, the vets were ok, but then we moved to Newbury and LOVE the vet. He is gentle and kind and takes the time to explain everything to me and my husband without talking down to us. The staff is friendly and very warm and welcoming to us and our "furkids". We are very pleased and highly reccommend this office. more

I would recommend Burton Vet clinic to anyone 12/22/2007

We have several animals (cats and dogs) that we have vetted with this clinic over the last 10 years. Our animals are not the best behaved when at the vet and at least one, a dane, was very large. The care has been consistently high quality and the staff very compassionate. Throughout the course of the years, I too have seen animal health care costs rise and there have been times when I have chosen their health care over mine; however, this clinic has worked with me and never made me choose between the care/cost equation. I went through several local vets before I could find one who would work with my difficult pets and in this case I not only found experince with large animals, but partners in my pets care. I would not go anywhere else. more

amazing 12/20/2007

We have 3 amazing dogs who love to get into "trouble". Whether it be eating mushrooms, having serious throat condition or getting stung by bees, Dr. Borger and his crew are always sooo great to us and our babies! At one point Dr. Borger sent us home with a free perscription simply because he knew all the troubles we have had with one pup in particular. He did not need to do such a thing. A different time, we had to have a tumor removed from one pups foot. The staff hurried our baby in for an "emergency surgury" and they even stayed late that evening so we could bring him home the same day. I feel that everyone at this veterinarians office truely loves animals. They have great respect for the animals and their people. more

Very kind and loving staff and Doc 11/22/2007

We just had our 10 year old Golden put to sleep. I cannot say enough for how kind and compassionate Dr Paul Borger and the staff was. I got hugs from most of the staff. EVERYONE was so tender and caring. \r \r I totally disagree that they are interested in just making money. I think they put the animal and owner first - that is MY experience. \r \r I would recommend them to anyone in the area. more

First Class 10/5/2007

Burton Veterinary Clinic is a top shelf organization. Dr. Borger is a gentle and compassionate professional with a first-rate staff. Having recently gone through the agonizing decision to have a family member euthanized (our 16 year old cat), the whole process was treated with tenderness and understanding, including a comfort blanket, use of the smallest possible needle, and a caring assistant. This facility deserves the highest recommendation possible. more

Caring Staff Continues the Tradition 12/27/2006

For over 50 years the Burton Veterinary Clinic has been servicing Burton & Geauga County and my pets. Recently my Mother-in-Law (who is a Senior Citizen and was widowed less than 2 years ago) had an emergency with her dog and couldn't reach her regular Vet. She was beside herself so I told her to go to Burton. She was taken right away & treated, with great care and respect when she had to have her 14 year old best friend "put to sleep". Even though she wasn't a regular customer of theirs, they were kind, understanding and sympathetic at this difficult time. Not only Dr. Borger, but the whole office personal were just wonderful! Thank you for being there to help ease not only the suffering of the patient, but the sadness of her owner, also! more

I think they are more 11/6/2005

intersted in money, the helping the patient. My dog had an ear infection, and i told them I could not afford to bring her in, and could we just buy the prescription. They said no! The parking is good. more
