I brought my 14 year old dog to see Dr. Sam after she started favoring her hind leg. He examined her and recommended surgery to repair a damaged acl joint. This was going to cost in excess of $2,000 but he urged me to do it as he said it would improve her quality of life. I said no, but it still cost me over a hundred and fifty dollars to walk out the door, after office visit and meds which they never even asked if I wanted. (Had they given me a prescription to have filled at the pharmacy, it would have cost less than half of what they charged me, I found out later). I took ,my dog to another vet for a second opinion and he said no way would he recommend this operation as he wouldn't want to induce that much trauma to a dog her age. He told me that the acl would get better, but her rabbit hunting days were over. Well now less than a year later, at 15 years old, my beagle is happier and healthier than ever.
