Best

My 7 year old Doberman is my baby so I freaked out when she was fine one minute and unable to walk the next. Our vet diagnosed Wobblers and referred us to this hospital for surger...

Worst

This is by far the worst vet in town!!! Dr. Mcgrath is the worst, unprofessional, rude and a liar. I went there to treat my cat and was lied to the whole time, and the bill kept...

Don't go here 7/12/2017

Ridiculous & unorganize. I called in the morning to make a same day appt (5:30 appt, came in 5:10 for new patient paper work). At 5:30 the receptionist notified us somehow our appt time got bumped off & won't be seeing Dr Kaplan, but will be seeing another doctor, we said that's fine. At 5:45 we were seen by one of their ER doctor, after checking our cat out (lump on his left side & horrible ongoing rash all over his body, tried all OTC flea treatment, all failed). He asked if he can take the cat in the back office, not sure why though, the doctor comes back 30 mins after & said he will write us rx meds for the fleas (Acuguard, was told we won't be able to buy elsewhere according to the nurse). We said ok we will purchase it, but we still need a written rx, to avoid coming in again & to see if I can get it elsewhere, the nurse said she'll BRB. after about 90 mins waiting for the nurse (irritated by now cuz everyone has come & gone, but us). We spoke to the receptionist & asked whats the hold up. They overlooked our paper work. I saw her just picked up the paperwork & mefication where the nurse left it, which was 90 mins ago. I asked where the written rx is, her reply they will just mail the written rx (I better get that in the mail). The doctor we saw was nice, but very uncertain of what to do, he said "I'm an ER doctor, so this isn't really my area, I deal more w/ emergency care, I can recommend a dermatologist". I don't know what that means. He wanted to do a few test in regards to the skin problem. I said we'll wait to see a dermatologist. more

YOUR PET WOULD HAVE BETTER ODDS AT A KILL SHELTER 4/10/2012

My. Vet referred me there. There is nothing I can say that was good. No follow, no return calls, expensive, uncaring staff, unprofessional. How does this place stay open? more

An Unethical Rip Off Joint 4/28/2011

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! My wife took in a stray cat that showed up at our house that we were feeding. The cat was losing its hair and scratching terribly. They took blood and urine and gave the cat a cortisone shot and then charged her FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. At no time did they inform her of what the charges were up front. And then on top of that I got a bill for $197 dollars for lab tests a week later. So that's SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS for a checkup and shot for a stray cat. I don't even spend that kind of money on myself for medical care. When I called the billing office to question the bill, the billing lady very curtly informed that it was my wife's responsibility to ask what the charges were beforehand. Really? Is that how you operate an ethical business? Never before, in all my years as an animal owner would we have dreamed that any vet would charge these kinds of outrageous fees. This place is an unscrupulous, cash factory for its owners. Most of the time you're seen by young vets fresh out of school and they charge as much as the experienced guys who own this clip joint. Do yourself a huge favor and find a more ethical place. more

Best Care for Pets & Caregivers 5/26/2010

Take your pet directly to VCA WLA at the first signs of trouble. My beloved Radar got to Dave Bruyette and VCA WLA too late - had I taken him in at the first signs something was wrong (over-appetite and going outside box) we would have had a much better shot at beating Radar's IBD. Instead I waited a week or two too long, went to Value Vet after having dumped Westside Hospital for Cats and VCA Wilshire, and then went to Dave for ultrasound and a consult. Worked with him for a few weeks trying to get Radar to respond to the protocol which was totally correct and had no needless procedures or extraordinary measures, drugs or costs, in fact, I needed to push for more aggressive care. It was very easy to communicate by e-mail. Ten years ago, VCA West LA helped me manage my FeLV cat Chloe for happy years more than she would have had. Sadly, Radar passed way today, in my arms, with the compassionate care of VCA WLA. The front of the office and the pharmacy can be chaotic, and you need to check dosages and such, but if you even suspect a whiff that your cat is sick, go here. Now. more

wait was long but worth it... 2/9/2009

we found the doctors to be serious and the integration of on site specialists very helpful more

Misdiagnosis and Unnecessary Procedure 7/14/2007

I brought in my 11 month old dog for urgent care -- a puncture wound. Dr. Hall advised sedating and x-raying would as she could not be certain it was just a bite wound. She also told me she detected a level 2-3 heart murmur and that I should take Tasha to a cardiologist for a full work up. The would was left unsutured, and I paid almost $400.00 for the exam, c=would cleaning x-ray and medication. I brought Tasha in to her regular vet, who emphatically stated she had no heart mumur (he even called in a second colleague to listen), a stated that the VCA vet probably neglected to make sure my dogs mouth was closed to avoid misidentifying normal breathing sounds. He also told me that Tasha clearly had a dog bite wound, and that the x-rays had been unnecessary. Needless to say, I will not be taking any of my pets to VCA again. I've since learned of two other after hours vets close by that are excellent. Apparently VCA hire many young vets and does not supervise them; they tend to overdiagnose and run up charges. more

Terrible Service 7/9/2007

I had a terrible experience with this animal hospital. Dr. Farber told me that my bearded dragon, Spike, was healthy and happy, despite the fact that he had been having seizures and chronic diarhea. The hospital ran tests at my request, but treated me like I was over-reacting. They never called with the test results, I had to call and pester for them. Further, these were tests that needed to be re-run after a course of medication -- and no one ever told me that. When I found out, and called to ask when the tests should be re-run, no one ever returned my call. My beardie -- the one I was told was healthy and happy -- died last week. He was only one year old, and this breed has a life expectancy of ten years. more

Great experience with Cocker's TPLO surgery 7/7/2007

I am 1,000% happy with my Cocker's (Roxy) post TPLO outcome. Roxy had her TPLO in November 2006. It's now 8 months post op and you would never even know she had surgery. Tina Owen did her surgery and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. No limp; no post-op issues whatsoever! The best $3,000 I ever spent. And I am NOT complaining about the price! It is what it is. A small price to pay to give my girl back the ability to walk and sniff.....her two favorite things in this world. VCA West LA is fabulous. They stayed within the original quoted price for the surgery/follow-up care; and the surgeon, Tina Owen, did a stellar job of giving Roxy back her greatest happinesses in life -- walking and sniffing. more

I Highly Recommend 2/15/2007

I have and will always take my dogs here, especially for specialty services. They may be expensive but they have specialists in every area and provide the highest quality of care. The Medical Director, Dr. Bruyette is brilliant. more

time to reprioritize and find a new place to take my pets 1/9/2007

I have spent over 10,000 dollars on my pets at this hospital. My new cat saw three vets before his heart murmur was found. Had total of 800 dollars in wasted vet fees. Feels as if they are more interested in making money than doing what is best for your pet. Push push and push........... more

VCA 12/22/2006

I have been taking my animals to VCA on Sepulveda in LA for years. I think that their service overall is good but they have become very expensive. Nonetheless I continue as I do feel that at least when I take my animals in, there are a large number of doctors with various specialties available to work with me on behalf of my animals. Have they made mistakes? Yes, but people will make mistakes and at least by returning when my animal doesn't improve, I always have the choice of another doctor. Do they not return calls...yes, that is a big problem. Largely, the only way they seem to get back to you is if you make an appointment and then they call you once or at most twice as a follow up. But, since they don't bill per call, I suppose this is the reason that they don't return calls that readily. more

Oncology department 12/5/2006

I am currently seeing Dr. Cretin, who specializes in oncology, as my dog has mutliple myeloma. I switched from City of Angels, because I felt I was lost in a factory there. I hesitated to switch, because of City of Angels reputation, but am thrilled that I did. Dr. Cretin has really taken the time to know me and my dog and his illness. I had 5 visits at City of Angels and I don't think anyone would know us there or misses us there. Dr. Cretin knew us better in 1 visit, that City of Angels knew us in 5. VCA seems efficient and caring to me. I believe I am getting excellent treatment for me dog and I don't feel lost. Kody and I couldn't be happier here. more

Very upset over outcome of my pet 11/12/2006

I went to the Cincinnati's VCA Hospital with my dog with a compound fracture to his leg. The hospital fixed his leg with a plate and pins. A week later returning on a bandage change the techs dropped my dog in front of my husband and myself resulting in a dis-located hip. So we now have a broken left front leg and a dis-located back right hip. This resulted in surgery again to insert pins and stitch together. He ended up have 3 surgeries on his hip and another on his front leg as it is now bent at an extreme angle with his paw facing to the back. We are sitting at a 8000.00 bill which they have not acknowledged that we shouldn't owe. Their drop resulted in all of the injures. My dog now lays on a mattress in the living room and goes outside only to use the bathroom. I miss my dog, he can't jump, hold a bone, take walks with us, his personality has changed so much as being depressed. I have a sight hound and they are suppose to be ran every day ( I'm a runner ) so I've also lost my running pal. My dog was in a cast for 6 months resulting in the terrible outcome. The first surgery was great but if it gets extensive get out your billfold and don't expect the same dog to come out that went in. I will not go back. They take no responsibility more

Great Service with Dr. Chang, the ophthalmologist 10/24/2006

I had an appointment today with my blind Pekingese dog for his yearly checkup with Dr. Chang, the ophthalmologist. I was able to get an appointment relatively quickly and the initial consult here was $50 less than other area veterinary ophthalmologists. This hopspital has a very large staff as it is a multi-specialty facility. Dr. Chang was accompanied by several veterinary intern residents so my dog was examined by several people so I didn't feel like I was hurridly whisked in and out . He answered all of my questions and was very knowledgeable. And I didn't have to wait too long either - a problem I've had with some vet clinics - large or small. more

huge business corp interest in making money 10/22/2006

Basically they killed my dog by their lack of knowledge. Unfortunately the vets could not understand the symptoms... Uncaring. Animal sees different vets. My cat had surgery there. The technician told me that technicians do all the surgeries at this VCA. Extremely expensive. I have spent thousands there for nothing. more

great service 12/13/2005

I took my dog there because he had a very bad allergy. I went there around 7.30pm and they didn't charge emergency hours yet though their competitors next door already did. The wait was ok for me (without appointment) but it really depends on the emergencies because the people who came in after had about 2 hours wait. The vet was friendly with my dog, and the prescriptions he got were helpful. They also sell all pet's stuff there so it can save you some time. more
