VCA Aacacia saved my dogs life. Twice. 5/24/2010

VCA Aacacia Animal Hospital saved my little dogs life. Twice. Not only did they save his life when they performed an emergency surgery late that night when he was attacked by 3 large dogs, they saved it again when they removed the gangrene he developed over a week later. All these events severely traumatized my little dog, and temporarily turned him from a sweet loving dog into a snarling biter. They continued to give him very caring and thorough treatment in spite of him biting at them repeatedly. They were patient and understanding with him. Yes, it was expensive. They did provide estimates, and in most cases they were within or near the estimate. On one occasion I did receive a surprise, but they very graciously worked with me on that. The staff was very caring and friendly, and even if they didn't remember my name all the time, they always remembered my dogs name. As a result of the gangrene removal my dogs wound had some complications, and they quickly referred me to a specialized more

Highway robbery 3/13/2010

Do not send your pet here in an emergency. They gave me an estimate of $384 just for a diagnostic test, of which we already told them what we felt the dog was suffering from. It was obvious my bulldog had an uterine infection. Total procedure price ended up being an estimate of $3,200. I took my dog home after paying $100 to them for fluids when they initially tried to bill me $293.00 for this. My dog did ok overnight at home and we took her to Dr. Butchko. Had the total procedure, testing and boarding done for $800.00. Butchko removed her uterus and she is doing well. Thank Goodness for Butchko if we had listened to Acacia we were going to put her down. They are nothing more than ANIMAL KILLERS... I am not sure anyone would pay $3,200 for surgery on a 6 year old bulldog... more

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?! 3/8/2010

You know I cant people the people on here and all the horrible things that are being said about this hospital. It really sickens me. I have never ever had a problem with this place. Yes I do agree that it might take alittle time to be seen BUT it takes forever to see my own doctor!! And YES new FLASH it costs money to have your pet seen by ANY vet due tot he fact that pets do dont have health insurance like we do! You dont see the bill that our doctors send the insurance companies do you NO! I do not think that this hospital is MONEY hungry like so many of you are saying! I think that it is a 24 hour place so yes they can charge a little bit more! But they have wonderful wonderful doctors and I would take my pet there any day of the week!! \r So to those of you reading this and thinking of taking you oets here do so and judge it for yourself. Dont judge because of some stupid comments on this! Judge them for yourselves! more

Idiots......Idiots >>>> 3/8/2010

I needed to get my dogs last records of vacination, from this place. I called and was informed that they have no records of me bringing my dog there, only my cat. I was kinda dismayed becasue not only did my dog get vacinated there he also had ear surgery and now I was been told they have no record of my dog being there.. .So I thought well I will find my check I wrote, and sure enough I found the check I wrote and my records for my dog. I called back the girl still insisted I had never brought my dog there. What a bunch of Morons.... more

VCA Aacacia Animal Hospital is a horrifying rip off 12/11/2009

It's been said here over and over, and Aacacia is all about the money. Every time I've been roped into taking my pets there they have made us wait for well over an hour past our appointment time... which would be understandable if there were emergencies with other animals, but many times I was the only person there and still had to wait well past the time of my appointment. Then, when pulled into the exam room, the vet proceeds to lay all these extra procedures your pet so desperately needs. I brought my cat in to have a simple check on a small cut from another cat and they attempted to lay me with five hundred dollars worth of things I didnt need, including basically shoving certain products down my throat, because of course they get more from those companies to do so. This is all after repeatedly telling the vet that I am on a fixed income and currently laid off from my job. I absolutely did not have the money to clean my pet's teeth... I haven't had my own teeth cleaned in years b more

Thanks to Dr. Shim and staff... 10/19/2009

We have changed our opinion, of this facility, because of a recent incident that left us with no choice but to utilize them (we had a very poor experience @ 3 years ago)! I am thoroughly impressed and extremely thankful for the recent care that we received for our 11 week old puppy, Izzy. Dr. Hyung Shim is amazingly caring and professional. He explained the problem in "layman" terms and the various choices of treatments. We were allowed to ask as many questions as we had and we never felt that he was rushed for time or brushing our concerns aside. He actually listened to us! He was available to talk to when we called to check on her while she was in the hospital and he PERSONALLY called to check and see how we were doing after we had her home. The staff was friendly and informative -- at the front desk, Cassandra was a joy to deal with even in our "stressed" condition. Kudos to the obvious improvements and changes that have been made at this hospital. \r \r Pamela & Jim Preston more

We've had good experiences, and appreciate the 24-hour hospital... 9/14/2009

We took our dog to Aacacia because he was dizzy and acting strange... they quickly identified the issue as being a piece of foxtail that had gotten into his ear and worked it's way down. They tried to remove it without sedating him, but ended up needing to sedate him to remove it. They seemed knowledgeable and adept at doing their job, and they were nice and very professional. It's just too bad that vet care is so expensive! I think the bill would have been the same anywhere in the area though... maybe I'm wrong... but just the same, we're happy that our dog is well. We've only ever taken pets to this hospital for emergencies, but have had only good experiences when doing so... more

VCA Aacacia Animal Hospital is all about money not love 7/15/2009

This business is all about money. When you are sitting there with your sick dog, you hear everything. They kept telling people they were under staffed, this was on the phone and in person. They are all about the bill and charges and take so long to give you info. Oh yes, and claiming they have computer problems. Computers are run by people and because they over charge for everything. Unfortunately, I didnt have a chance to check prices even though I did question them. Our adored 7 lb dog was put to sleep and cost 92 dollars plust 36 dollars for group cremation. The best vet charges 44 and doesnt rip you off for cremation. The best vet would charge 42 dollars paid directly to the company and give you your pets ashes. I am so sad that our dog go had to leave this world and mad that places like this dont do the right thing. They made us wait so long for our bill (1 hour) after we made that awful decision and I had to tell them I couldn't do this anymore and would come back tomorrow. When more

VCA Aacacia Animal Hospital is 7/11/2009

Had an appt. at 11am was there at 10:30 and waited 2 hours to see the vet. Was charged for meds that I was told not to give to my dog before they called me. After I got home I called to see if I could return the medication if he didn't need it and they told me NO! asked why I was charged for meds that my dog might not need and they said this was standard. It was over 50.00 dollars and I can't return it even if he doesn't need it. I would not recommend them to anyone. I don't think they know what they are doing.....please don't go to them. For your pets sake. more

VCA Aacacia Animal Hospital is a FANTASTIC Hospital! 7/4/2009

We recently had our sick dog Jolly treated at this hospital by Dr. Hyung Shim and he was a SUPERBphysician! Jolly had been demonstrating intermittent problems with breathing. He listened (really listened) to the symptoms that we told him that we had observed and he asked very good questions. He did an extensive assessment (blood, urine, xray) - very thorough! Once he had the results - he gave us his diagnosis/opinion in a very honest manner. He gave us numerous options as to what he thought would be best for Jolly. We took Jolly home and on the ride home we had more questions. I called him and he talked with me for some time and he gave me referrals to specialist hospitals and he sent me the xray via e-mail so that we could get assistance over the weekend as we were really worried about his condition - not knowing if he would get worse - or if we had seen the worst of it. The following day Dr. Shim was kind enough to continue to assist us - even though it was his day off! He demonstrate more

Absolutley Wonderful 6/30/2009

We started using this vet when my 19yr old Persian began suffering kidney failure. We didn't know if she would make it through that first night, and when we got the call that she was okay to come home - I'll never forget how thankful I was. Although she did eventually pass away I was able to have several last months with her which I won't forget. We continue to take our dog (age 12) and two new kittens (age 1yr) regularly. The staff is very friendly and knows us and our pets by name. Everyone is genuinely concerned for the health and well-being of the animals and are always honest about the best treatment options. They've helped us through kidney failures, heart murmurs, eye infections, and swollen bellys - and they always make sure we understand the ins and outs of each pets health - and what the pros, cons (and prices) are to each treatment option. Our pets are our family and I wouldn't take them anywhere else. more

Beware, beware. 6/29/2009

Beware. I'd be highly suspicious of the positive reviews further below. My experience mirrors the more recent negative reviews. We had a 3:00 appointment and didn't see a vet for close to an hour after even though we arrived early. Then they consistently overcharge for services. Consult another veterinarian to learn what are standard necessary procedures and their costs. You will find extra procedures added to your bill at greatly inflated cost. Your estimate will contain lots of vague language about things like "Professional Services Other" and there will be an extended range given for the possible costs of services. Don't assume that you will be contacted before they add extra expenses to your initial estimate. You will likely find your final bill will be at the very top of that "possible" range, rather than what you originally agree to pay. Also be careful what you initial. It will lock you into paying for those services that you didn't approve. We found that they gave us a bait an more

beware 6/28/2009

I'd be highly suspicious of the positive reviews. My experience mirrors the more recent negative reviews, and they prey on people's fears and ignorance to overcharge for services. We had a 3:00 appointment and didn't see a vet for close to an hour after even though we arrived early. Then they consistently overcharge for services. Consult another veterinarian to learn what are standard necessary procedures and their costs. You will find extra procedures added to your bill at greatly inflated cost. Your estimate will contain lots of vague language about things like ""Professional Services Other"" and there will be an extended range given for the possible costs of services. Don't assume that you will be contacted before they add extra expenses to your initial estimate. You will likely find your final bill will be at the very top of that ""possible"" range, rather than what you originally agree to pay. Also be careful what you initial. It will lock you into paying for those services that you didn't approve. We found that they gave us a bait and switch. They said they had not performed x-rays and that they wanted x-rays to be performed and said they would call with a revised estimate. We waited all day for the revised estimate, which gave us time to consult another vet. The other vet made it clear x-rays were unnecessary because the complication that they were looking for is ""extremely rare,"" so we did not approve x-rays. We decided to transfer the animal to Animal Emergency in Grand Terrace (a much better and reasonable hospital). So when we went to pick up the animal, they tried to bill us for services we had not approved. When we pointed this out, they used the sneaky language of the initial estimate to raise the price from what we had already agreed on. We wanted to see an itemized list of services rendered with their actual costs before we would pay the extra money. This is basic. I wanted to know exactly what we were paying for. They printed one out that did not have prices. They blamed the computers. Now after two hours of this, we had to get our cat to the other hospital. We finally agreed to pay the higher price, but get this, the final bill had an itemized list of services rendered with their prices, exactly like I had requested. Here's the kicker: it was different from the one I had just been shown. I didn't notice this until I was in the car, hurrying to the other hospital. iI turns out they actually did take x-rays and charged them to me. They actually prey on people's fears and assume people's ignorance at reading lists of services rendered to get away with charging people for stuff that they didn't need or ask for. To top it off, they have the gall to pretend that their services are better than anyone else's to try to get you to pay inflated prices. Don't fall for it. Judging from the actual care my pet received, they appear to me much worse than places that cost less then a third their price. The copy of the chart they gave us was actually altered from what they faxed to our usual vet to cover up what had actually happened when a procedure didn't work as planned. The chart our vet received suggested that a catheter had been placed improperly, while the chart we were given suggested that the animal himself (sedated and in and e-collar) had removed it himself, so they could justify charging me twice for the procedure. They will even go so far as to imply that other vets are offering substandard or less advanced care to scare you into paying their inflated prices. Listen to them, because they will go right up to, but not cross the line into libeling your other favorite vet. If you are forced to use them, be really suspicious of anything they do. If at all possible, go to Animal Emergency in Grand Terrace. At first they may seem pricey, but they are really quite reasonable for the after-hour service they offer. Pros: Open 24 hours Cons: Overcharge, and charge for unapproved services. more

Caveat Emptor - VCA Aacacia - Do your homework! 6/12/2009

I used to really like this place but ever since they switched over to corporate VCA things have gone downhill. Alot of the staff left and the new girls at the front desk are the worst. Now i am taking my pets to Norco Animal Hospital to see Dr. Kermit Smith. So far so good there and much more reasonable. Especially for the basics like shots, spay/nueter, minor boo-boo's, etc. more

awlful disgusting animal services 6/9/2009

My dog died on sunday night june 7 2009 because of the red haired vet at aacicia animal hospital I brought my dog in severly dehydrated from vomiting she threw him in a kennel making me believe he was being treated 3 hours later when I could not pay her 1500.00 on the spot she brought my dog to me and never even treated him at all. She told me doctors make this money why shouldnt she? She is one sick crazy woman that has no heart or any intention of helping animals , she is a fake and trying to get rich off of peoples beloved animals. she needs to be shut down. she took my debit card and charged me 200.00 for nothing. my dog recieved nothing at all. someone shut this place down! more

I love this place! 5/27/2009

I had some previous dealings with Aacacia a couple of years ago. I had to bring my dog in for some x-rays. I wasn't really impressed back then. Seemed less than personable. Less than caring. But knowledgeable! And even then once our x-rays were read, the diagnosis was accurate and treatable. Nothing bad. Just not warm and fuzzy.\r \r However, recently we had an emergency with our dog on a Sunday morning. It was even Mother's Day. We knew our regular vet wouldn't be available on a Sunday morning at 7:00a, so we left our house and drove to Aacacia without even a phone call to them. We went there, because we knew them to be the only 24 hour vet/hospital in our area. We came in, were greeted immediately and saw the vet within 20 minutes. Our dog is not only very shy, but also a bit "high strung" as far as her nerves go. :) However, Dr. Anielski was so good with her. So patient. And so reassuring to us as soon as she knew what the issue was. Nothing was done without our co more

BEST ANIMAL HOSPITAL !!! 2/23/2009

The staff and doctor are absolutely amazing!! Very caring, understanding and always answering questions or concerns. The employee's are down to earth and animal lovers! I would recommend this hospital to friends, family or anyone off the streets. We had to put our cat to sleep, due to a broken back and this staff would do anything to make us feel better. We received a lot of hugs from the staff, during our loss. I really like that... at least I know they care. I'm taking all my animals to Aacacia.. more

I Will return!! 1/26/2009

I recently moved back to Corona and needed a vet for my dog. I called VCA Aacacia and spoke to a very pleasant and professional receptionist and was able to make an appointment for the very next day. When I arrived the receptionist knew who I was before I even got to the desk and greeted my and my dog by name. It turns out she was the same person who made my appointment the previous day, it was refreshing to have someone smile and greet me so nicely. When we got into the the exam room the nurse and Dr. were so nice and treated my pet as if she was their own, answered all my questions and explained everything in detail . I will definitaly come back again, Thank you so much to Dr. Dhama, Kathy & Laura You are all wonderful ! more

Excellent care! 1/10/2009

Since we were raising a family of baby birds that fell out of a nest, one of the vets gave us a break on the bill (scuse the pun) and several nutritional tips for the babies. One of our cats developed severe seizures in the middle of the night and received excellent, prompt care. Negative reviews surprise me. more
