Uzu Japanese Restaurant

We walked in last night a few minutes before 7pm. The restaurant was EMPTY and they asked us to sit by the bathroom (where they seated us last time). I politely asked it we could sit elsewhere since the entire restaurant was empty. They said no, that they had reservations for ONE of the other tables at 8pm. I had a so-so feeling about the restaurant the first time I went (bathroom is iffy) but I thought it was a result of our seat. Now, I still have a bad feeling and won't go back. I do not believe Uzu deserves the bashing of the last post. I too have gone to Uzu probably 2 -3 dozen times in the last few years. True, the old owners were great and we were very friendly with them, but they moved on. There was a learning curve with the new owner, and they have come a long way in the few months since the change. It is still 1 of only 2 places worth eating sushi in the neighborhood. The atmosphere is pleasant, the food is still good (still a more affordable option than many over priced places), and the quality has greatly improved in the last few months. Don't be swayed by a negative review. Its a good spot w good sushi that is byo. Don't forget a bottle of wine, beer, sake....or all three. This small place will give you the best sushi and rolls for your money, we were stuffed to max for under $50. I had to spend over $40 just by my self at most other sushi joints. Most important thing is their sushi and rolls were better then all of sushi restaurants in Philadelphia. Chef Dung made special that was out of this place and best of it all it was on the house. Uzu by far has the best sushi in Philadelphia. I have eaten in over 100 sushi restaurants in the area and although Uzu is a quaint small restaurant they excel in what counts most, fresh fish. Not only is the sushi tasty but portions are large and the staff is most curtious. Uzu also provides a great place for a date. Since the restaurant only holds about 20 the staff is able to give special care to each and every patron. more
