You will be impressed 3/4/2011

I went to this store on a Tuesday night. There weren't any other customers which was nice. A nice young lady helped me (Vanessa) and she was very pleasant and talkative. *Probably because we are both having destination weddings* I went in looking for a particular dress. I found it and tried it and several others on. Thier dresses have been tried on multiple times and don't really look like they're in the best of shape. However, this stores prices were better than others I had been to - for certain items. All in all, I had a good experience. I'm not a picky person and wasn't looking for specifics (except the one dress I had seen before). Just give it a chance, maybe you'll be impressed and maybe not. more

Great room for the money 2/10/2011

The front desk staff was really nice as they let me check in early on rainy day. I wanted to use the hotels laundry mat and it wasn't working so the front desk staff map quest a laundry mat in town that was convient for me to go. My room was comfortable and they had free internet service as well which was great. I went to the hotels restaurant as well and the Crab cakes were great no compliants from me. The only down side I had is when I checked out the inquired about using the computer in the lobby and was charged 15.00 for 15 minutes and it was supposed to be only 3.95. Well as I was explaining this to the front desk clerk she said that this had just starting happening (highly doubtful) and as I went on the talk about this subject she cut me off completely as if she didn't want to hear anything else I had to say. None the less she told me to sign the check out form and sent me on my way, no thanks for staying, have a nice day; she just started talking to her co-workers as if I didn't exist anymore. I've worked in the customer service field for quite some time and for a company that has won the JD powers award 5 times in a row for customer service and this irked me big time. Anyways all in all this was a great stay for the price of the hotel and the cleaniness of the hotel. I'd recommend it to others for sure. more

Good Location, Right Price 2/7/2011

I believe we booked on [--] and got a cheap rate of $80/night. I came to Portland to attend an event at the PSU campus and see a bit of downtown so this hotel was perfect for me. You can easily walk to campus or downtown in about 20 mintues or hop on a bus. I took public transport from the airport and had no problems, their directions on their website are spot on. The outdoor pool is seasonal so I wasn't able to enjoy that. The gym has older equipment but I was the only one in there which was nice. Stay includes breakfast but I never got up early enough to try any! I had problems connecting to the internet from my room but when I called the front desk they were able to help provide a user name and passcode. The room is average - I would say 2 maybe 2.5 stars but it's clean and safe and we didn't have any problems with it. Parking is a bit expensive if you bring car but that is probably true for other area hotels. The only thing I will say is the layout of the hotel is a bit strange. It's kinda like a winding maze that fluctuates between the indoors and outdoors...kinda hotel, kinda motel. But I would stay there again unless I could afford to pay another $100/night to bring me up to a 3 star plus place. more

premium 2/1/2011

The hotel was clean and the room comfortable for the price we paid. The bed was a little hard and we were disappointed that the restaurant was closed. We walked for blocks only to find fast food. McDonalds and asian foods. Would of hade to drive to a decent restaurant but we were tired, it was late and we had appointments in the morning. Other than that it was sufficient for one night and close to the hospital (1/2 mi). I would use it again but only if the restaurant was open and only for one or two night stay. There is a 12 dollar parking but parking anywhere in town is a premium so it was expected. It is a University town and everyone uses bicycles to get around. more

will definitely stay again 1/27/2011

The staff was kind and cheerful. They led us in by phone and gave us printed out directions for our next distination when we left. Called us a cab to go to the Rose Garden, which was very helpful. The rooms were very clean and in good condition, with a low cost. Can't beat that! more

good value, short walk to downtown good value, short walk to downtown 1/24/2011

I was skeptical about staying on the edge of town, but the walk to the waterfront and downtown attractions was very brief. The hotel itself was nice! Nothing fancy, but it was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the person who checked me in gave me a warm cookie. The pool looked nice, but unfortunately I did not have time to get in. I would definitely stay at this place again. more

Fabulous staff 1/20/2011

The staff was wonderful. No request was unanswered. Very, very pleased with the hotel and its location in Portland. The responsiveness of the staff earned a customer for life. more

Comfortable Hotel 1/12/2011

This is not a "spa" hotel, but the rooms are clean, comfortable, and quiet. It is easily accessible from the freeway and convienent to downtown Portland. I really appreciated the comfortable chair and good reading light in the room. The restaurant, Encore, is a gem, not the usual blend restaurant associated with a otel, but a worthy destination by itself. The menu is varied, the food excellent, and the wine list rxtensive. more

Great value 11/24/2010

This hotel was very pleasant, convenient, and a great value overall. The continental breakfast offered several choices - better than many other places. more

Nice place too stay 11/23/2010

Nice place too stay. Very economical. They had a good breakfast included with the room. Room was simple, but nice. Wired internet included in the room rate. more

It's great 11/22/2010

Returning to Portland for yet another family event (20-something alumni kids of PSU who still live in Portland), I went online to book a room. I've stayed at University Place several times over the years. I was perplexed to see the negative comments about this hotel. It's always been ideal for my needs. It's a nice place - nothing dumpy about it at all. Very, very nice atmosphere with clean, tastefully designed rooms. It feels more like a nice hotel than a Holiday Inn Express, let's say. The price for Portland cannot be beat. I've always found the service to be outstanding. I like the fact that it is walking distance to downtown but just enough on the outskirts to be quiet. It's perfect for me. more

University Place in Portland- inexpensive downtown 11/19/2010

University Place is a reasonably priced hotel with an outdoor swimming pool located at the south end of downtown. It's not fancy but it is less expensive than many downtown hotels and stores and museums are easily accessible either by walking or by free streetcar transportation. Front desk staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. more

Quiet, Clean and Friendly 11/17/2010

We came to Portland to visit our son. We booked a room for 5 nights at UP. We flew into Portland very late, took a cab from the airport ($45 with tip) and were greeted by a friendly staff member when we arrived at the hotel. We had a king size with balcony looking over the outdoor pool and courtyard. Our room was very clean and appeared to have been recently updated. We would have appreciated a small fridge to keep drinks and take home leftovers. The onsite restaurant had a decent breakfast menu ($20 for two) and the staff was great. The location makes it very accessible to the street car and bus (which is free for a huge part of downtown). We came and went at all hours and noticed that the front desk was always staffed and we were always greeted personally. I would recommend leaving the "do not disturb" tag on the door until you are ready to have your room cleaned-the cleaning staff were up and working rather early. We used the streetcar and Max line to get back to the airport-which involved a one block walk and fare of $2.05 each for the Max line as it goes out of the free fare zone-took about and hour. We would definitely stay here again. more

Comfy, quiet room at PSU and close to Max light rail 11/15/2010

The room was comfortable, quiet and convenient to PSU and the light rail brought me to and from the train station and the Pearl District for free. Unfortunately the continental breakfast was worse than no breakfast at all. The staff were young and very helpful - I'd stay again but just make sure to go out for breakfast! more

It's like home 11/2/2010

Small but it's like at home. Good one! more

Very, very pleased 10/28/2010

Of all the places we have stayed in ANY state, this place and every staff member (especially Willie) were very helpful in any and every situation. Very, very pleased. Will return to University Place without a doubt!! more

The staff was very attentive 10/20/2010

The staff was very attentive and helpful during an emergency situation. My husband was sent to the hospital in an ambulance. The front desk immediately called and let me know. They also printed out directions to get to Kaiser. The food attendant offered to let me use their tray to bring up food for my family. more
