Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece 1/10/2006

Oak Park is full of Frank Lloyd Wright houses and even has his studio which is certainly worth a visit. The cool thing about the Temple is that you can visit it by attending a worship service, or just come to see the building if you prefer. It is worth coming when it is actually in use. This building is surprising. The last time I was in here, a friend was getting married and had his wedding here. There are balconies surrounding the main space and we went in and climbed up to a balcony. I was impressed with how intimate the space really is. Unity Temple Unitarian Universalist Church 8/16/2005

Unity Temple Unitarian Universalist Church is a liberal congregation with membership in the Unitarian Universalist Association. The building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and is worth a visit in itself. The congregation is well-established in the Oak Park area. It's a little difficult to meet people at first, as everyone seems to know everyone else. But joining one of their many classes or taking part in an activity offers the chance to get to know other members. If you're looking for liberal theology, or just a place to get that sense of community without a lot of "preachyness", this is the place for you! And if you aren't already familiar with Unitarian Universalist churches, check out the website. You'll find they aren't traditional Christian churches, but more like liberal religious communities. more

Great Architecture and Events 8/9/2005

I haven't actually been to Unity Temple for their church services, but I have been there many times for their events and on guided tours. As you may know, Unity Temple is a Frank Lloyd Wright building, so it is on the walking tour of Oak Park. It is a great building to look at and enjoy, both inside and out. The congregation at this church often have events that the general public are welcome to attend. I have been to many pot luck suppers, open houses, socials, etc. and everyone seems genuinely nice. It's a great place all around. more
