Sensei Stein at USSD of Southlake has made a huge difference in the lives of both of my children. He has helped my very shy child find confidence in knowing she can stand up for herself. I have been coming to United Studios for a few months and I am very pleased with the training I have received. I have trained in many different styles in the martial arts for many years, 11 to be exact. I love the way that Sensei Stein is non-judgmental of my previous training and how is very patient with my muscle memory from the other styles. Shaolin Kenpo Karate is a beautiful style and the flow of the system is very helpful when learning the new forms. I have been attending USSD for nearly 3 years now and have had nothing but wonderful experiences. The instructors are dedicated and caring individuals. To say they are committed to your training would be an understatement. Irregardless of their rank or location, I have found each instructor to be excited about each student's training and willing to work with the individual as best they can in order to make sure they are a successful martial artist. I began to study Martial arts with USSD seven years ago to improve my flexibility, balance and coordination at the age of 41. The private lessons with one-on-one instruction with Sensei Orren have been incredible. Whereas most dojos concentrate on a class room setting as their sole means to teach new material and provide instruction, USSD's Southlake dojo gives it's students BOTH private and classroom instruction for the same price. Our son has been attending classes at this studio for almost a year and it has done wonderful things for him developmentally. Sensei and Vanessa both do a great job of teaching the children many of the skills that they will need in order to become thriving, healthy and happy adults. Our son was having a hard time speaking up and looking adults in the eye and Sensei has helped this immensely. He has also vastly improved our son's ability to focus. In other words, Sensei listens to your personal concerns and helps to reinforce those core lessons that parents are trying so hard to instill in their children. Sensei Stein is wonderful and has the perfect personality as a martial arts instructor: Understanding, compassionate, and commands respect through his humility. He is highly knowledgeable and skilled in the system and is always trying to teach the practical aspects and real-life applications to the techniques you learn. I invite you to come and try it out. The reason we started the studio was too help my son who was having a problem at school with bullying. We looked around for a long time trying to find a place that would help him learn and teach him discipline and the right way to deal with these situations. The answer was USSD! We found this place by accident. I saw a sign on the studio and saw that it just opened up. I went and talked to Mr. Stein who was a very nice man and I new that this would help our son with his self esteem and bullying. I went home and asked him if he wanted to this and he eagerly said yes. We started and he loved it. I could see a change in his behavior and self confidence in a few short weeks. When my daughters were born, I promised myself that they would take self defense classes. Being females, I felt it extremely important that they know how to defend themselves and have the confidence and tools to do so. I also knew that I would do the same for my boys - although for slightly different reasons. I want my boys to be able to defend themselves but also be armed with the knowledge that they do not have to fight to be tough. However, if the situation presented itself, they would have the tools to defend themselves. What USSD and Sensei Stein offer and stand for is exactly what I was looking for. With so many karate schools to choose from, how do you pick the right one? My son and I have attended several schools over the years. USSD has been the best one for us so far. The quality of the instruction, the consistency of the program, the applicability of what is learned makes this school stand out. It is all about individual learning and development. The program is not tournament-oriented, although going to tournaments is encouraged as a learning experience. It is all about developing effective, individual self-defense skills in a safe, comfortable environment. My son and I really respect and enjoy the program. I have been interested in martial arts for as long as I can remember. Looked long and hard for the perfect fit for me. I just happened to stumble across USSD and was very interested in what Sensei Stein had to offer. Not only do you get private lessons, which is very rare in the martial arts, You also have unlimited time in the Dojo with group classes and anytime you want to work alone. The group classes are very laid back fun atmosphere to learn in. Luckily Sensei Stein is very patient with his students that seem to have part timers disease like myself. I have never considered going beyond black belt until I joined USSD. Now I see that the sky is the limit in how far I go with my martial arts training. My Daughter Alexa has been training to become a 1st Degree Black Belt at this Dojo. She will take her test November, 2010. . Alexa started at this Dojo when it first opened, I think she was one of USSD's first students. We enrolled shortly after meeting Sensei Stein, who is kind, loyal and understanding. Alexa started here as a White Belt and has worked her way to the top with the help of her Sensei who motivates her to succeed. It sometimes isn't easy being an adult learning a new skill, especially one that could save your life one day. However USSD has a way of making learning fun and effective. We practice our techniques on each other, depending on individual level. There are all ages, levels and body types, and I think that is what makes this place unique. Everyone is made to feel welcome from the start. I have a 4 year old, Luke, who one day out of the blue started talking about boxing and karate. For several months he kept telling me he wanted to take boxing and karate. I started checking around and found that many places don't like to talk to you unless your child is at least 5 years old. Our daycare provider highly recommended Ussd so of course I called to check them out. Sensei Stein listened to my story and took time to go over the program so I would know what to expect. He also offered to perform a free evaluation to make sure Luke was really ready. After attending the free lesson, of course Luke wanted to sign up. He has now been attending for a couple of months and has already earned his yellow belt. He loves it! We are so proud of him and everything he is learning.
