Back when I was growing up in the 1960's, if you wanted your Sunday papers (yes, papers, plural), you were sent to the news stand. United Card is just such a place. The traffic - people carrying an arm load of Times, Ledgers and Records - in and out on the weekend is amazing. Lottery sales, magazine sales, birthday card sales and, of course, tobacco sales also fill their coffers. And while I am a confirmed non-smoker, the only reason for 4 stars is because of the way they display adult magazines. They are placed high above floor level so kids can't grab them, but the lurid covers with suggestive titles and pictures are right there.
Anyway, this is a fun store, call it a throwback to a time when people were readers and getting your facts from print counted for something.
