We had driven by several times and always found the restaurant empty so it scared us off. This time we decided to be brave and ventured in.
Food: Chicken - (avg price $13 for an entree enough for two light eaters or to share. Comes with rice, but breads have to be ordered separately and are priced at $2.50 to $4.)The chicken was flavorful and contained white-meat chunks of juicy, not gamey chicken. Chicken tikka masala was good. Flavors were subtle and they asked whether we wanted it mild, med or hot.
IN the vegetarian dishes, the spinach and cheese was creamy and tasty. Priced at $8 to $10, they seemed reasonable and quantity was similar to the chicken entree. They didn't just use a packet of creamed spinach and gave it a whirl with spices, which is what a restaurant across the street does. This was spinach the way homemade north-Indian/punjabi spinach and cottage cheese (known as palak paneer or sag paneer ) usually is. It tasted buttery but wasn't just chock-full of cream.
Service was good especially since the restaurant was totally empty. :)
Nans were crispy, flavorful and MUCH better than their competitor located on Cumberland Pkway (Swapna) whose naan's are terrible, bland pieces of dough. The rice that accompanied the chicken entree was very so-so, but then we didn't try the *biryani yet to be able to comment further.
(*Biriyani/Biryani - sumptuous, aromatic rice pilaf style entree, generally slow cooked with lots of spices such as cinnamon, black pepper, cloves, bay leaves, sometimes saffron, and either lamb, chicken or vegetables).
Overall, a satisfying meal even if they lacked in ambience and personality. Will go back and try other stuff and report back.
Pros: Decent food, crisp nan & parathas; polite server
Cons: Lack Ambience
