Underground Cafe & Coffee Hous

An excellent place to relax, study, work, or hang out with friends & family. It is owner operated- the guy who takes your orders is the owner. I've been in there a number of times, and despite what another reviewer said, he speaks English just fine. He has a mild accent, but even though I'm hard of hearing I have no problem communicating and understanding him. They offer free WiFi, a comfortable space upstairs with couches, comfy chairs, and board games available for customers. Groups who want to use the space can do so, for free, with advance notice. The coffee and smoothies are excellent, and it's my favorite sandwich place. There is also a small outside seating area. more

WE found an ad for this place and decided to give it a try. We (4 0f us) dropped in and the place was empty! The guy behind the counter could barely speak English and never knew what we wanted..He gave us a slip of paper to fill out as to various ingredients for sandwiches, which is all they served. We left to go to another place to get something to eat. This place won't last...poor guy! This was on Sept.25, 2011. more

I ordered two sandwiches - horseradish roast beef and the turkey with chutney. Both sandwiches were *really* tasty. I ate every molecule, they were so good. But good grief, it took 20+ minutes for the two to be made in the kitchen. Hopefully the slow prep time was a complete fluke, because I would love to get sandwiches from Underground every time I drive through Newberg. I love this place! I have spend many a night there working on that big final project. The hours are great, being open until 11 on the weekends is perfect for the late night coffee or sandwich. Speaking of sandwiches, they have some of the best around. Their hot sandwich menu is delicious! The coffee is amazing, one of the few places around i think truly takes their northern Italian style espresso seriously! The new espresso blend that they carry is very good. The staff is also knows what they are talking about when it comes to coffee. So if you want a great espresso and an enjoyable group environment, i recommend you stop by and visit this place! It is one of my favorites! more

I never had a problem with the Underground in Newberg until they were bought out by Cornerstone Coffee in recent years. They close sooner, staying open until EIGHT pm on SATURDAY night. They used to stay open until 10 pm every night. Not only that but each time I seem to come in with in 3 hours of closing, the sandwich bar is closed, much like tonight. Closing a part of your place, a part that causes me to walk out, is absolutely asinine if you wish to continue to get repeat customers. Especially since ""dinner"" starts around 5pm. The sandwich bar likely takes no longer than 20-45 minutes to close down. So the need for it to be closed at 5:30pm just boggles my mind. I would plan on visiting here if you actually WANT something. And I used to love this place. Pros: great food, great drinks Cons: Staff isn't as friendly as they are made out to be more

The workers are always smiling and extremely nice, not to mention great coffee and amazing sandwiches! Calm, relaxing environment, great for working or just hanging out! more
