OK TO THE FIRST PERSON WHO COMMENTED ABOUT HOW BOTH HAD TO BE OWNED BY THE SAME PERSON ... THEY WEREN'T... THE PEOPLE WERE IN THE SAME FAMILY... BUT UNCLE GIO IS REALLY UNCLE GIO ...

Worst

My husband and I visited Uncle Gio's on a Friday night and only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. However, we then had to wait about 40 minutes to get our food. And it ...

no longer exist, and has very bad people runing new restaurant at same location .. 1/21/2009

DO NOT GO HERE, the original restaurant is closed, the one there now is the worst...save your self time, and dont waste it there.....BAD PLACE Pros: nothing is good here Cons: get out while you can more

ok i used to work there and this is what happened.... 6/26/2008

OK TO THE FIRST PERSON WHO COMMENTED ABOUT HOW BOTH HAD TO BE OWNED BY THE SAME PERSON ... THEY WEREN'T... THE PEOPLE WERE IN THE SAME FAMILY... BUT UNCLE GIO IS REALLY UNCLE GIO (REAL PERSON) HIS NEPHEWS ON THE OTHER HAND CAME UP WITH THE MONEY AND RAN THE HARDING PLACE RESTAURANT... TECHNICALLY THEY OWNED IT. AND UNCLE GIO HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT... BUT UNCLE GIO WAS SUCH A GOOD PERSON THAT HE OFTEN WAS TOO NICE TO HIS FAMILY AND COME TO FIND OUT ... HIS BAD NEPHEWS HAD BEEN STEALING MONEY FROM CUSTOMERS AT THE HARDING PLACE RESTAURANT ... AND THEREFORE UNCLE GIO LOST BUSINESS AND HAD TO SHUT DOWN ... AND IN LEUI OF RISKING THAT HIS CUSTOMERS WOULD FIND OUT AND PUT HIM UNDER. THE OLD UNCLE GIO'S WILL NOW BE THIS DELI PLACE. I HOPE THIS HASN'T CHANGED YOUR OPINION B/C THEY WERE ALL HOME MADE RECIPES AND UNCLE GIO IS A STAND UP MAN! more

Best canolli's in the south 4/24/2008

When they had the place at Nolensville and Harding where the old Shoney's used to be. They did have some problems there, but I never could understand why they shut the doors. Several of us ate there at least 3 times a week. The spagetti was sometimes over cooked but not always, and when they got the hand made pizza it was out of this world. The servers we always had were great and would apologize if something wasn't out or right. Pros: Best Italian sauce Cons: not enough ample parking at the one close to Nolensville, Tn more

stay away from this place....... 4/17/2008

terrible food.........maybe in New York Hungry but not Nashville. The worst service, the poorest quality food, bad advertising, misleading....resturant is now shut under the premise of renovation yet is less than 2 years old...my guess is their bad rep caught up with them....food is overpriced, over cooked, tasteless, too salty, bad tomato sauce........if there were a lower score than one star, they would deserve it....... Cons: everything about the place stinks more

Great Pizza 1/27/2008

I visited Uncle Gio's for the first time last week on a Wed night. The waiter was very friendly. Complimetary bread was served and the food wait was average. We got the Sicillian Pizza and thought it was huge and delicious. There was plenty leftover after we were done too. The price was great for the amount of food we got and the taste. I would definitely go back again. Pros: Friendly server, great food, good price Cons: Lighting was flickering a bit more

Avoid this place! 1/26/2008

Thinking this would be authentic pizza and a fun new place to try, my husband and I took our kids for Friday night pizza. After looking over the menu and deciding on the pizza we wanted, the waiter kindly (couldn't he have told us before we sat down??) that pizza would take over one hour to be served. Wasn't this a pizza place? He said that due to delivery orders and people already in the restaurant, there was no way they could get the pizza to us any sooner. Imagine explaining that to our two hungry kids! We left and will not go back. If they can't handle the pizza orders, either hire some more cooks or install some more ovens! Or at least advertise correctly...we won't go back. Sorry Gio. Cons: Everything more

unclegiosmgmt misleading 1/13/2008

I believe the comments by unclegiosmgmt on 1/3/08 are a bit misleading. He refers to the other location as having different management and a different location. However, the two entities are obviously owned by more

Re: Comment by Hankhound 1/3/2008

Statement from Uncle Gio's Management: The Uncle Gio's location at 6448 Nolensville Road is not the same Uncle Gio's that was at 401 Harding Place and called Uncle's Gio's Italian Buffet. That location is closed and was under different management and was a separate corporation from Uncle Gio's at 6448 Nolensville Road. We have a few calls in regards to credit card charges from that business and have explained this to the callers, and as per credit card company regulations referred them back to their credit card companies to seek further action. We have never turned away a customer from our location at 6448 Nolensville Road that has been overcharged or double charged. We believe the comment posted by Hankhound is not only inaccurate, but slanderous towards our business as we have not had ANY recent credit card issues at the 6448 Nolensville Road location. Additionally, we have not turned anyone away for credit card issues at this location. We encourage anyone to always ask for a manager if you have any questions or concerns and we will be happy to assist. more

Love, Love, Love Uncle Gio's!!!!! 11/22/2007

Nashville has some great restaurants! My friend told me about this place right before Nolensville, called Uncle Gio's....I went and all I can say is unbelievable! The food was incredible and the service was on point. The manager stopped by my table, and I talked to him for a little bit. Uncle Gio and his family run the place, so they make sure that everything is up to thier familys standards! I had the baked penne and sauteed calamari. It was the best calamari I have ever had! I told my mom about this place and she went on my dad's birthday. The server made a beautiful desert and they even sang Happy Birthday in Italian! Great job guys! I hope you stick around for a long long time! Pros: food, service, food, location, service NAME IT Cons: parking more

Just like home! 11/19/2007

Coming here from Atlanta (originally from NY) we had tried several Italian restaurants in Nashville including Amerigo's, Demos, Mafioso's...pretty mediocre. Pros: authentic Italian food Cons: small more

Small Time and Big Problems 11/13/2007

I don't get it. The place was busy, yet everybody was complaining. The pastas we had were very expensive, not very good and slower coming than the next ice age. The staff is more into over selling booze and wine than taking care of us poor pasta eaters. The management didn't visit us, we just got apathetic lip service from our server. For the prices I?ll go downtown and eat at Amerigo?s or Valentino?s or anywhere that puts it on the plate not just in their pockets. Gas isn?t so expensive that we have to deal with this. Pros: Good Location Cons: Everything Else! more

Best New York Style Pizza around 11/7/2007

We have been customers of Uncle Gio's since they first opened. Service and wait times were definitely an issue when they first opened the doors -- at one point, the service was so slow we vowed never to return. However, the pizza simply cannot be matched and so we toughed it out. I'm happy to say that over the past six months or so, the service has vastly improved, as has the speed of the kitchen. Be sure to try the sangria. Pros: Pizza Cons: Parking more

Great Experience! 11/5/2007

I ate at Uncle Gio's tonight and it was really awesome! I was in no mood to cook because of the storm and just wanted to get out! I walked in to Uncle Gio's and was immediatly greeted with a smile and welcomed into the establishment. i sat in the corner booth and was helped by an awesome waitress! She susggested the Chicken Marsala and it was awesome! The restaurant has a heart and a family feel to it! Not only will I be back, I will tell all of my friends and family that this is the place to eat in Nashville! Great Job Guys! more

Truly terrible customer service. 10/30/2007

As with many many of these reviews, I must attest that the service at Uncle Gio's is truly terrible. I do not believe the food is worth being treated the way in which we were treated. Restaurants must learn the hard way that both the quality of the food and the professionalism of the staff translate to a successful dining experience. Uncle Gio's is severely lacking on the latter. I will never return. Furthermore, I will recommend that my friends and family avoid this business. Cons: Service, Management, Host Staff more

Oh, my GOSH!!! I don't know how someone can write a poor review on this place...especially the last few months. I have been a regular, nearly every week, since they have opened two years ago. 10/9/2007

My wife and I have been regulars nearly every week since they opened two years ago. Ungle Gio (YES, there really is an Uncle Gio) is one of the best!! HIs nephews are the ones running the place. They're young and had their struggles adapting to the responsibilities but HEY! Gio saw some trouble areas and has fixed them. He hired more family and took them out of the restaurant business in Las Vegas who know how to run a tight ship. So, now, we enjoy the greatest Italian food in Tennessee with a fun, family atmosphere. I'm in the music businees and I bring my clients thereall the time. Now, they bring their friends and family, as well. The food is as close to Italy as we could find, especially the Margherita Pizza, which is as close to what we had in Italy than anywhere! It's a place that is not interested in ""flipping tables"". We've enjoyed our meals, sat and visited with the staff, drank a bit, enjoyed a cigar on their outdoor patio and visited some more, never feeling like we need to leave so that they could have the table. This is also just like Italy. Over thepast two years, two of my kids have worked there and his family has become an extension of our family. We are so glad that they are here!!! Pros: Thumbs WAY up!! Next to my wife's italian food, this is the best in Tennessee!!! Cons: There will be a wait on a Friday night, for sure!!! more

Great food, terrible service 9/20/2007

Why can't this place get it together?? It's been 2 years and we have yet to have good service! I really hope they do, because the food really is good and I would hate to see it fail because of the service. Sorry. Pros: Food, location Cons: Service service service more

Best Italian Food in Nashville! 9/12/2007

You know, I am a regular at Uncle Gio's and I come to this website all the more

great food BUT HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!! 9/9/2007

We are from the northeast and have parents who own an Italian restaurant up there. Uncle Gio has a REAL Italian menu! We have given this restaurant many, many chances to get their service right but for some reason they can't. And it's really too bad because he's gotten the food perfect and the setting ideally located (for us) in Brentwood and from Nolensville. The servers and the staff answering the phone don't know how to wait on people, what their menu includes, and have no idea how to take reservations for big parties and get them in on time. When they first opened they had trouble with the air conditioning, but ever since it's been a staff problem. Our neighbors and our friends and everyone we know has said this same thing................We LOVE the food......please GET YOUR STAFF RIGHT!!!! Your business could be doing so much better. Please don't make us talk my in-laws into moving down here to open up their restaurant! You and your nephews seem to be nice, hard working businessmen.......GET EMPLOYEES WHO AREN'T IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!! Pros: food Cons: SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

If you really want a sense of being in New York where those authentic Italian Restaurants are then you should definitely put Uncle Gios on the list to visit. Defintely, not the canned taste. 9/5/2007

They serve very generous servings with enough to take home. Atmosphere is set with upscale music, yet a fine dining restaurant with a casual atmosphere. Oh yes, the patio, a great place for all kinds of gatherings. By the way, Uncle Gio doesn't believe in that chafing dish assembly, but wants to cook all his food fresh and to the table. The herbs and spices used in the bolognase sauce is delightful--not too spicy, but yet just right. You can tell he makes the real authentic tomato sauce this is think and hearty and wonderfully homemade. What more could anyone ask for, even live music on the weekends. I have been so impressed that I am taking a large group of single adults there for dinner and music under the stars. Pros: Adequate parking, very authentic food, large menu with fine dining dishes as well as Pizza Cons: A little off the beaten path, but easy to drive to and positioned in a fast growing area of Nashville more

Dissapointed!!!!!!!!! 9/4/2007

Uncle Gio's was recommended to us by our best friends. My wife and I head to Nolensville from Nashville in search of the great Italian food that was described to us by our friends. We were told to ask for Antonio and make sure he was cooking. Antonio was off that evening and should never take off again. The food was horrible. Nothing particular stood out, but it was no good. It was luke warm and soggy. The sauce was a little watery and the meatballs were bland. Also our bartender was very arrogant and was to busy oggling at my wife and several other female patrons to get our drink order right while we waited to be sat. Not usually one to write reviews, expecially negative ones. ATTN: Uncle Gio your restaurant has tremendous potential!!!! Fix it. We told our friends about our experience and lack of Antonio and they advised us to try it again and to be certain Antonio was there next time. WE'll consider it and write another review if we chose to try again. Pros: Ambience, entertainment Cons: Bartender, and food more
