This is an incredible place to come in the summertime to get a breath of fresh air. While the campgrounds can get insanely busy on weekends, there are lots of trails where you can feel like you're away from it all. Maps are available at the entrance to the forest, and there are trails for just about every level of fitness. Don't forget to bring some cash--if you're planning on stopping for the afternoon, you'll have to pay to park your car. (It's a nominal fee, and if you plan on coming back throughout the summer, it'll be worth it to get a season pass.)
Pros: Stunning scenery, Great hikes
Cons: Crowded on weekends
