This restaurant, run by a family from, of course, Udupi Village is my favorite ethnic restaurant in Montclair. The room is simple and pleasant. The service is casual to somewhat inattentive. But the food: Amazing. It’s got the basics of South Indian cuisine: Dosais (crepes), Uthappams (pancakes) and other starchy vegetarian fare. Curries too, from both south and north India. The flavors and sauces are out of this world. And the chat—bits of mixed up stuff—are my favorite. You can look up their site on the web by searching for Udupi Village.
Pros: Strong and interesting flavors
Cons: Sometimes slow service
