We ordered a special gift for our daughter's 21st birthday, and missed the delivery attempt. It was Saturday, and UPS offices are closed. The person we spoke to when we called their customer service 800 number could only say that another attempt to deliver would be made on Monday, after the birthday. Discouraged, I tried to think of a way to get in touch with the driver. I called the Braintree UPS store and asked for some ideas. Jimmy immediately offered to speak to his driver and see what he could find out about where our package might be. He told me he expected the driver back at the store in an hour or so. I offered to go to the dispatch center to collect the package, if it could be located.
Unfortunately, I didn't hear back from Jimmy. He must have gotten too busy to get back to me before the store closed, or perhaps the driver didn't return as expected. However, it wasn't his job to solve my problem, and I appreciated his offer to help me make the connection. It proves that there are usually ways to work around obstacles, if we are willing to think creatively and take an extra moment or two. Even though we didn't have our daughter's present on her birthday, it was encouraging to know that an individual went out of his way. I'll be more likely to do the same for someone else because of it.
