Long story short.
Wife called to have Turkek take a look at our water softener which was making loud noises with the pipes when it ran. To see if it could be fixed or the cost to replace. Was told on phone they will come free of charge and give a estimate on a fix and a new softener. They came didn't do anything as there was nothing wrong besides being old. Gave a estimate for a new softener and charged us a service fee of $70. After telling my wife there would be no charge unless we wanted them to fix something.
Going to add more to it. I told my wife that our water softener was just old and needed to be replaced sooner then later. Told her not to call anyone as nothing is free. She said they will take a look for free and theres no harm in that. On the phone they told my wife they knew the problem and dealt with this issue allot. When the plumber got here he looked lost. Told me he didn't have a clue what was making my pipes rattle when the softener was running. I told him I researched it and it was air from the water softener and its just old on its last legs.
He looked so confused like this was his first day on the job. Touched my pipes moving them like something my kids would do if they were solving this great mystery. I told him you guys told my wife you knew the problem and dealt with it all the time. Plumber said in all my time I never seen anything like this. I had to hold back from bursting out and laughing.
Then it hit me I was in a Seinfeld episode and George Costanza was my plumber. This plumber the second he got here knew there was nothing wrong so he put on a show to drag things out to justify him charging me.
Touching pipes on the ceiling, touching my water softener, acting lost, confused. Making a noisier water softer feel like its one of the biggest mysteries in the world. He stalled and delayed walking upstairs in my bathrooms making things up that could be a problem like looking in my toilets.
Then after the show he tells me I think your right your water softer is just old.
