As I walked into the eclectic waiting area of Art's Tuffy in Walled Lake on the corner of Maple rd and Pontiac Trail I was overwhelmed with automobile nostalgia. From the retro gas pump TV to the 50?s Cadillac couch, it is definitely a cool place to walk into. Then you meet Art, the owner of the store who has been there for years and who is touted by locals as a ?pillar? of the Walled Lake community. Sitting at the counter while Art was asking me about my vehicle, I couldn?t help but notice the 100+ awards he has received over the years from Tuffy and the countless number of newspaper and magazine articles as well as personal thank you letters written to Art and his team. Art was helpful, knowledgeable and very personable. When I told him that money was tight and I didn?t have the ability to come up with the money it was going to take to fix my car- he simply said, ?Well kid, today is your lucky day,? and took what I had? which was $300 less than what the bill was for. Before I sat down to wait for my car to be fixed Art asked me if I would like a ride home, courtesy of the store (Art had a driver at the shop who drove people to and from their homes to not be inconvenienced) and even though I live more than 20 miles away he told me it was no problem. Right before I accepted his offer however, I noticed a computer station in the waiting room with WIFI. I asked him how much he charged for his customers to use it and he looked at me like I was crazy. It was free! The repairs on my car took no more time than art said they would and the mechanic who worked on my car, Mark, was very nice and incredibly informative. I have recommended Art to everyone I know and will continue doing so. Thanks to you and your team Art- I am forever greatful..
