Good food, casual atmosphere, decent prices. 3/20/2006

This franchise's first location in Tallahassee is located across from the (new) Sam's Club on Capital Circle. The store did so well that they bought a second location on N. Monroe. Both are excellent and the food is pretty standard across all Italian Pie's that I have been to (one in Georgia and one in South Florida). The food is probably best described as Italian American, and the restaurant is one of those weird hybrids between casual pizzaria and full service restaurant. You definately get full service, but there is something very casual about the whole establishment (maybe it's just me?). I like to go to the Pie for lunch on the weekdays, where you'll find a menu of delicious sandwiches, calzones, and pasta dishes. For about $6 you can get a small calzone (slightly smaller than their dinner calzones) and a delicious salad (I pick the Medeteranian because I love olives, feta, and sundried tomatoes). Their wraps are also delicious, with fresh made bread and a generous portion of meats/toppings inside. They also have hand-tossed pizzas, which are quite good. They often have a special called "beat the clock". If you call in a large one topping pizza order between the hours of three and five and say you want to "beat the clock" your pizza's price is the read-out on a digital clock. For example, I called in a few weeks ago (Feb 2006) at 3:12 and my large mushroom pizza was $3.12 plus tax. This may be weekdays only (I don't know the full rules) but is a great carryout option if you live or work in the area. (This offer may only be the Capital Circle store, call and ask if you can beat the clock, and what are the rules. The staff is generally very friendly and helpful). The dinner menu is also quite good. If you're going for dinner, check the Mint, as they regularly print coupons for buy-one-get-one-1/2 off. At the very least your drink will be on the house. Speaking of drinks...they have a small selection of beers (mostly domestics, longnecks) and sometimes have them for a buck. Their deserts are also pretty good (I've only had the cherry cheesecake, and it was slightly above average fare). A dinner entree is around $8-10 and their portions are much larger than other pizzaria's in town (i.e. for lasagna you get about twice as much as village pizza). All in all, this is a nice casual place to get some decent Italian food without breaking the bank. A great place to dine with friends or family, or just call in a take-out order and enjoy it elsewhere. more
