The Scene
A beautiful 100-acre campus replete with neogothic buildings sits in the heart of the city. Founded in 1823, this private liberal arts college was first an Episcopal school. To this day, the chapel is one of the first stops among visitors. During lazy summer evenings, people stretch out in the shadow of the chapel's spire and listen to the carillon ring.
The Best
The Austin Arts Center is a gallery and performing space that blends the traditional with the avant garde in theater, art, dance and music. The Gallows Hill bookstore regularly stocks over 15,000 titles (no textbooks) and is one of the city's best.
The Rest
Cinestudio, a student-run, movie theater is probably the most elegant theater in the city with its huge screen (complete with tasseled curtain), balcony and American and foreign film runs.
