I've stayed at the Cambridge Inn about a dozen times over the past 5 years- 50-70$ rooms with an actual pool and a fridge couldn't be beat. But the down sides of CI gradually wore me down on this ""deal"" inn- I've gone multiple times and there was no reservation to be found, and I typically am given a lower rate on the phone per night than when I'm there in person- to top all that off, I find that only about 30% of the time there is a maid who comes to clean rooms. For years, I put up with these issues because it was still pretty cheap, and usually not too crowded.
But a recent experience, in which I booked several rooms for myself and other friends, has lead me to call it quits with the Cambridge Inn. Upon arrival, they couldn't find our room res. for 20 minutes or so, and I was told the price was 99 a night (I was quoted 60$!!!)- none of our keys worked, and throughout the weekend, the keys would stop working and had to be replaced over and over. To ice the cake- we all flipped our door hangers to ""maid service please""- and when we got back, every door hanger was flipped back around to ""do not disturb"", and the rooms were not serviced- when I asked the owner what happened, he claimed ""you didn't want to be disturbed!""- I might believe a bandit flipped all the door hangers, but this has happened on multiple stays here, and I'm certain this is just a tactic to avoid admitting they don't hire a maid on less busy days.
Pros: Cheap, close to downtown
Cons: Quoted room rate changes when you arrive, no maid
