Best

I have been to Stella's numerous times and had great experiences every time. We usually sit in the bar side (R Bar) and the servers are always extremely friendly and knowledgeable...

Worst

THIS JUST IN: CAFE STAR HAS CLOSED AND WILL BE REPLACED WITH STELLA'S. YUCK!!\r \r Here is another example of an originally unique restaurant, ruined by identity crisis. Yes, it...

A top pick of the Denver dining scene! 5/7/2006

I've been to the hip, upscale, yet casual Cafe Star a handful of times since it's opening in late 2004. Rebecca Weitzman's menu continues to amaze me. The menu changes to evolve with the season's freshest produce and meats. Ask your server for recommendations on wine pairing from the eclectic wine menu. Service has always been very friendly and knowledgeable - some of the best service in Denver! Occassionally we have to wait for our reservation but this has only occured on weekends which is going to be the busiest time of week for any upcoming and popular restaraunt. On warm summer nights, the patio is a great place to enjoy the Colfax scene. In an unlikely location, Cafe Star shines! Pros: Amazing menu, friendly waitstaff, hip Colfax patio Cons: a bit pricey more

Excellent Food, Poor Service 4/26/2006

My husband and I tried Cafe Star. The waitress took forever just to bring us our drink order and to take our food order. Her lack of attentiveness really ruined what could have been an excellent restaurant experience. We each ordered small plates, which were excellent plus a dessert that was also good. Cafe Star needs to hire better staff or retrain its staff in order for it to survive in Denver's competitive restaurant market. I am less inclined to want to patron this restaurant again. Pros: excellent food, nice ambiance Cons: terrible service, parking is a challeng more

Good Food, Horrible Service 4/22/2006

The service ruined the night for us. We had a reservation but our table was not ready, our server was rude and failed to place a correct order for us. They were out of 2 of the 5 dishes we ordered. The food was wonderful, however for the price I expect the service to be much better. I will go back for the food but the wait staff needs a lesson in customer service. Pros: good food, great ambiance, good cocktails Cons: bad service, table not ready , out of food more

Shining Star 1/28/2006

Hip, without attitude. Love the colored glass wall. Very creative dishes. Unusual flavor and texture combinations that taste great! I enjoy the small plates so I can try several things at once. Good wine selection and great desserts as well. Try the Chocolate and Chili Pot d'Creme when available (or as I call it Pleasure with a Little Pain). Pros: Great Food, Fun Space, Good Wine Selection Cons: A Bit Chilly By Windo, Parking a Bit Far more

good food, rude service 1/16/2006

My girlfriend and I came here on a friends recommendation. Unfortunately we didn't have a reservation so we decided to sit at the bar untill a table opened up. Several people who came in after us were given tables while we still sat at the bar. The hostes even said to us ""you're okay at the bar right?"" while we overherd her tell another couple who came in after us that a table had opened up and they could be seated. Our food was good but I couldn't wait to pay and leave. Pros: good food, fun space Cons: rude service, pricy more

Great Find - Top 5 in My Book 1/12/2006

What a fantastic place! The atmosphere was welcoming and informal, the service was attentive (our server was the highlight of the evening), and the menu was extremely diverse. There was no problem finding dishes for the vegetarians in our party (and not just pasta with vegetables), and every dish we had was creative and unique. And all 3 desserts we ordered were top notch. We'll be going back...frequently. Pros: Diverse Menu, Great Food, Dessert Cons: Parking off Colfax more

very disappointing! 1/2/2006

very excited to eat here due to lovely reviews. unfortunately, the ambiance was chincy (chinese lanterns plugged into exposed electric sockets in the ceiling!?!), the service was deplorable (waiter was extremely snooty and everything I ordered, from soup to entree, was not in that night), the servings were very small, the check large, and the tastes mediocre at best. if you're looking for a reasonably-priced alternative where the food acutally tastes wonderful, try z cuisine. more

Best Food in Denver 12/27/2005

I've been to Cafe Star several times, both for dinner and to just hang out in the bar for cocktails. The dishes that I've had there are out of this world, especially the halibut. I also loved my salad and dessert as well. The atmosphere is hip and modern without being obnoxiously trendy. The place has a neighborhood feel and the staff are competent and eficient about 80% of the time. A dinner for two with drinks, salads, and desserts cost me about $100. Pros: Food, Intimate Atmosphere Cons: Gets Expensive more

A Great New Find 11/22/2005

Cafe Star looked interesting enough from the outside to meander in and to our pleasure, was a fantastic find! Located just down from the BlueBird Theatre and Atomic Cowboy on Colfax, the atmosphere was clean, funky and classy. Our waitstaff was knowledgeable on every aspect of the different foods/sauces/etc and wines offered. The menu itself it fun and it took a while to determine which dish to order they all looked so good. Portions seem small at first glance but are rich and intense with unique flavours. You can't go wrong at Cafe Star. Pros: Delicious, Fun, Funky Cons: Pricey more

Cafe Star - A Great Find 10/30/2005

My husband and I recently ate at Cafe Star on a Saturday night. We had made reservations and the table was ready and waiting for us. The restaurant is hip and chic and just down from the Bluebird on Colfax. The food was interesting and delicious - not at all ""run of the mill"". The hanger steak with gorgonzola butter sauce was amazing and the pear and rasberry tart was a ""to die for"" dessert. The waitstaff was good and the owner came by and introduced himself (that always means a lot). All in all we had a great dinner. I highly recommend checking it out. more

A Star Amongst Denver Restaurants 10/18/2005

My sister and I have eaten at Cafe Star on several occasions and have never been let down. Rebecca Weitzman's passion for her food is clearly illustrated on her numerous small plates. From smooth house made mozzarella to rich duck leg confit, everything on this menu is just right. Although it is located in a somewhat strange location on Colfax, it is certainly worth checking out. I only wish there were more restaurants in this town on the same level of excellence as Cafe Star. Pros: Great Food, Affordable, Great Service Cons: Deciding what to eat! more
