Awssome place, highly recommended 3/5/2009

Was there last week with group of55 , the best food I had in my live, service was litle slow, but we been not a rash, enjoy all time. Seeing bill, and was surprised, deesen numbers, samething a round $40 per person. Next time in Phoenix, I'll call for reservation. Great restaurant . 10***** more

Terrible service and Shady owner. 12/3/2008

We booked a large b-day party because they said they could accommodate us. We arrived, they only had 3 people on staff for a party of 50. Service was slow, I didn't even bother to order any food. Next week I check my bank account and I'm overcharged $100 to my Visa(also incurred a overdraft fee). Called and spoke with the owner who tried to blame it on me as a tip and finally refunded the overage but would do nothing to help with the overdraft fee. Completely unacceptable. Would never go back or recommend this place to a friend or family member. Shady business owner. Pros: Nothing good to be said about this place. more

Very disappointing 10/14/2008

My husband and I were just in Phoenix for a long weekend. We found a review of Medizona that boasted robust flavors so we made a reservation. The evening started very well. We were brought a basket of crusty bread with humus and a ratatouille-like relish. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his rabbit and fig baklava appetizer and mine (scallops in puff pastry) was also delicious. It went sharply downhill from there. I ordered the moroccan chicken and my husband ordered the pork. Both were dry and practically tasteless. I finally dumped the rest of the ratatouille topping from the bread basket on top of my chicken so it had some flavor. Not sure if the regular chef was out this night or what, but Medizona certainly didn't live up to its rave reviews, or even the mouth-watering descriptions of the dishes on the menu. I would never go back or recommend to anyone else (unless they are big fans of expensive bland food). Pros: Open on Sunday, nice atmosphere, attentive service Cons: Bland food, could hear the TV in the bar over the music in the dining room more

Lenard Rubin sold Medizona 6 years ago 5/20/2008

The editorial review still mentions Lenard Rubin as the Chef/ Owner. Please be advised that he sold the restaurant 6 years ago and has had no affiliation with it since that time. Pros: Good reviews Cons: Bad reviews more

Nothing great about the place - All a Hype! 2/16/2008

We went to the restaurant for the V'Day. After we were seated, it took about 15 min for the waiter to get to our table and he was so cold to us. When we asked, we were told the crowd was heavy and they had fewer hands. Menu looked adventurous and we went for a four course dinner. Appetizer came only after about 25 min and was not so great. Hoping for a better follow-up, we waited another 30 min for the salad. Salad was good. By now we could see other couples around us also losing calm since the wait was too long. While entree came only after about 40 min, by now we had lost appetite and were praying to get out of the place. V'Day dinner was turning out to be a horror. People around us had already started complaining. We could see some couples take a short walk around before the next course was served! Entree was not so great for the price. Desserts were really nice. Overall, the experience was horrible and would not go back to the place again. While the restaurant wanted to make business, treatment meted out was very bad and food is a hype and very pricy. This place is only good for drinks. Pros: Drinks, easy down-town parking at night Cons: Attitude, Flavor, Pricy more

Truley a gem, Nothing like it anywhere, Incredible menu and ambiance, Tapas/Wine Lounge on one side - Fine dining on the other 12/19/2007

This place has been one of our favorites for years! We would go to enjoy a special night out but now we can stop by any time. They have just remodeled and added a tapas lounge and wine bar to their offerings. The Tapas menu has these bacon wrapped stuffed dates and braised scallops in puff pastry, both are incredible. They have a great selection of multi-regional wine and something like 20 of them by the glass.\r I highly suggest it - you won't fine a menu like it anywhere. Go for a full dinner or swing by for some wine and cheese with friends. Pros: Incredible menu, Great location, place to kick-back, live music on weekends Cons: Parking, beer selection more

Really unique food, excellent service - a really great experience 7/1/2007

Its been a while since I ate somewhere that offered truly different and exciting food. Medizona really does. When the four of us couldn't decide from the array of exciting appetizers, our server recommended a custom sampler. The taste of each selected dish and overall presentaiton of this not-on-the menu item was incredible. Each plate consisted of one lamb filled crispy egglant taco, a wedge of portabello mushroom filled with jack cheese and shredded duck, and a southwest spiced jumbo shrimp on a nest of hummus. The plate was garnished with strips of fried parsnip and various multi-colored sauce. It was pretty amazing stuff. Two of the three entrees were exceptional as well. The achiote-rubbed panfried salmon was the best salmon preparation that I have ever had. The morel mushroom clam cream sauce was really remarkable and a surprisingly perfect pairing with the spicy fish. The grilled pork chop was juicy, the glaze tasty, and it was cooked perfectly. We would, however, recommend skipping the moroccan spiced chicken breast. This dish was (especially compared to the others) tasteless and boring. The cous-cous upon which the chicken sat was equally blah. If it wasnt for this dish, there is no question that I would say 5 stars, but the others more than made up for it. The service, ambiance, price (the wedsite does not provide prices, but most entrees are below $20) and most of the food was just great. I would certainly recommend that anyone try Medizona. Pros: Unique menu, exciting presentation, fantastic service, small intimate ambiance Cons: Moroccan spiced chicken is blah, tasteless and boring more

Terrible, all the way around 4/19/2007

We went to Medizona on our last visit to Scottsdale, base largely on the high rating it has. DON'T BE FOOLED. The food is absolutely terrible and the service is even worse. Slow, and generally not interested is how I would rate their staff. The menu is way overpriced, especially considering the fact that it will be served to you over-cooked and cold. With all the great restaurants in the area, avoid this one at all cost! Pros: Nothing good can be said about Medizona Cons: Everything more

Horrible service!!!!!!!!!! 2/28/2007

This restaurant changed owners and you can tell! We sat for 45 minutes before even getting our drinks. The waitress said they didn't have any whiskey and I had to go to the bar and show her that she did indeed have three different kinds. \r \r The food was okay. I had their award winning chicken and there was nothing great about it. There are so many great restaurants in Scottsdale that I would suggest going somewhere else. \r more

Best food in the Phoenix area 3/29/2006

In the over-hyped Scottsdale scene, this is a great find. It's not cheap but the food is absolutely outstanding. The wine list isn't huge, but it's very adequate. It is small and intimate and the service is superb. I travel extensively and eat out often and Medizona is now on my top list of restaurants in the US. Don't miss it if you are in the Scottsdale area. Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance more

Wonderful, wonderful food 5/9/2004

Just spent Saturday night there with family and friends, it was wonderful. All of us had different entrees basically, and each was different and so imaginative. Can't praise it enough. The prickley pear tiramisu, was a delight. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that wanted to experience wonderful cuisine, although the prices are high, it should be noted, that it was worth every penny. Pros: excellent food, excellent service more

VERY impressed 2/27/2003

I was in Scottsdale from San Francisco, and we picked this place out of a guide, called, they could take us - Amazing food. Everything was great - apps, entrees, service. I usually never believe that these are real reviews (I think the staff writes them) - but this one is! more

Impressive Service and Delicious Food! 2/25/2003

We had the most wonderful dining experience at Medizona. We even remind eachother ""Remember how delicious the food was at Medizona?!"" The entire meal had amazing presentation and each little morsel was absolutely delicious. There is no doubt they have a top notch Chef in the kitchen! On top of the amazing food, the service was impeccable!! The staff is soo nice. We felt very comfortable and were taken care of at every step! It is a MUST to dine at Medizona! ENJOY! Pros: AMAZING service, DELICIOUS food, cozy atmosphere more

for carnivores only 1/26/2003

i went to medizona yesterday and truly enjoyed the coziness, ambience, and food quality. However, there was not a single appetizer or entree that was vegetarian. Although they prepared a vegetarian entree for my date, I (who am not vegetarian) was actually insulted to see shrimp, rabbit, duck, lamb, beef, crab, salmon, veal, and halibut dishes, but not a single vegetarian dish. The two salads were the only vegetarian offerings. For a well respected rerstaurant to not acknowledge the vegetarians of the world in writing is almost despicable, and definitely shameful! I own a restaurant in NY city, and also have been to countless restaurants all over the world, and I do NOT recall one that does not have a vegetarian dish on its menu. This needs to be rectified in my opinion. Pros: coziness, ambience Cons: pricey, no veg dishes more

You Have a Star Chef in Your Midst 7/21/2002

July 2002 I brought my vacationing family of six to Medizona. The restaurant is decorated in the colorful hues of the southwest but the food is not limited to southwestern fare. Appetizers included Rabbit, Fig and Pinenut Baklava, and Eggplant Tacos with Lamb, Arrugula and Kasseri Cheese. These dishes weren't just different they were magnificent. The main course offerings included Achiote Rubbed Salmon and Grilled smoked Pimenton-Honey Glazed Veal Chop. This is the first time in five years that I actually asked the chef to sign my menu. Oh and for you dessert lovers looking for a touch of Arizona local flavor may I strongly recommend Prickly Pear Tiramisu. I was just a vactioner from New Jersey looking for a good meal in Arizona. I am now a devoted fan of Medizona. Pros: Delectable Offerings, Trained Staff, Warm Ambiance Cons: Expensive more
