i love sushi!!! Toshi makes great sushi and special hand rolls!. I also highly recommend their tempura and their Toshi bento box special for $13-- you get a good proportion of chicken or beef teriyaki, tempura, sushi or cal maki, miso soup and salad. That's a good deal! They also provide complimentary green tea. Price is also affordable. Service is also great -- very attentive staff. Downside? The place is small (not fancy). During peakhours...sometimes que time is about 10-30 mins. Better make a revservation for big groups. But overall, if you love good japanese food...be sure to check-out TOSHI! starting to slide 8/10/2003

This used to be the best Japanese for the best price in Portland area. Many of the existing rating reflect this. Recently things are starting to slide. The quality of the fish is dropping. This is disappointing. more

Best Sushi in PDX area 6/2/2003

I'm a sushi freak from NYC and this is an easy call-- Toshi is clearly the best sushi place in the PDX area, with no real close second. Ignore the strip mall ambience, and go gorge yourself on the best-cut sushi around town. more

Best Sushi in Portland 12/22/2002

I've had the opportunity to eat sushi at really good sushi restaurants all over the country. Toshi's easily ranks with the best that I have ever eaten - anywhere - and it is very affordable! The fish is always fresh and big enough to hang over the sides of your rice without being cumbersome. His mastery of sushi is quite apparent and the service is always warm, friendly and attentive. Best I've had in years 11/19/2002

I've eaten sushi in a number of different places in town and in other cities and this has to be my favorite so far. The spider rolls are to dies for, and it is the only place I've found that serves natto. It is very easy for me to spend too much here, but it is worth it. Great sushi, reasonable price 9/2/2002

My husband and I are one of their regulars who believes that Toshi's is THE BEST JAPANESE RESTAURANT IN TOWN! Although the place is kinda old, small and dark inside. The problem about this restaurant is really tiny that has only 5 or 6 tables (I don't remember exactly) and is really hard to find. But my husband and I gurantee your satisfaction! This place is small but food is great. Especially their appetizers, sushi & ramen noodles. I come here at least twice a month... Price is reasonable too also. more
