Best

Outstanding food, wines and spirits delivered in an elegant dinning room. Tony manages continually to hit home runs, as he has done the last forty years or so.

Worst

My boyfriend and I were both servers and medium to high end restaurants, and must say that we left disappointed about the level of service we received. Normally I wouldn't care, b...

Get with the culinary trends 7/3/2007

My Wife & I went to Tonys about 2 weeks ago & let me tell you this place should just close!! We went on a recomendation from a friend who said Tonys is a Houston land mark. If this is the best Houston has to offer we will just rather eat at Taco Bell. The food is so old school. They must have a old French chef who only knows how to use butter & cream. Hey owners, hire one of these ""young gun"" chefs so you can stay with the trends. The service is a whole other train wreck that I will not even bore you with. In short if you like old school flaverless food with bad service go to Tonys, but if you want something a little more exciting go to Marks, Vin or the new Monarch. Pros: Close to my house Cons: They are open more

Flawless 11/25/2006

The new location of Tony's has a different feel than the former spot on Post Oak; a little more modern, with more of a ""see and be seen"" flair to it. The appetizer of fresh ceviche was absolutely delectable. The marinated sea bass cooked in a wine reduction sauce and served with grilled baby shrimps on top of it, was mouth-watering and memorable. The wine list consists of a wide variety of choices for every palate and budget, and the service is flawless. If you leave here without trying the chocolate mousse souffle, then you've missed the whole Tony's experience. Pros: Artistic and Delicious, Romantic, Pampering Service Cons: Expensive more

Beautiful decor, excellent menu and service 11/24/2006

Attended a business dinner with some colleagues and had a enjoyable experience. The bar area is large, with tables and bar seating. Very nice wine by the glass selections. The dinner menu offered great selections. Although I did not order the steak, I got a taste of it and the flavor and texture was very good. The restaurant is decorated very beautiful, with warm colors, table tops were elegantly done. I would definitely come back for a romantic dinner. You can really see where to pull up to the restaurant from the street - so you have to look for it and turn rather quickly into the circle drive way where they have plenty of valet parkers who are quick and efficient. Pros: Delicious food combined with great service make this a ""must dine"" Cons: none more

Very Sophisticated 11/16/2006

I have eaten here a few times for lunch and for dinner and I have never had a bad meal. I particularly enjoyed the halibut . I don't think it has the expensive feel as it did before with the reds and oil paintings but that kind of got old. I do wish however that this place had a more intimate feel to it. The main dining room feels a little too open. It has the exact opposite complaint of the tables having been too close before. I am not sure what I feel about the look of Tony's new restaurant , but I would go back again because I not only had a good meal there but I love the cotton candy in a martini glass touch! Pros: Good Food, good cotton candy! Cons: A little less intimate feeling and not as romantic than I like more

I simply LOVE this resaurant! 9/16/2006

I can't express enough how the staff, owner and chef make every visit memorable. I've brought many clients in as well as had many a romantic meal. I am a British ex pat Oil and Gas man and find this restaurant to be incredible in every way. Could compete and win in London! Not a false move! Rave reviews!!! more

On the contraire..... 9/7/2006

As I am reading through these reviews, I must say that I had a totally different experience when I dined this past Valentine's Day at Tony's. From the time my husband and I walked through the door to begin our evening until the valet shut our car door upon departure, our experience was impeccable. The service was excellent and the food was hands-down the best I have had in a long time. I have absolutely no complaints! Unfortunately the other gentleman who dined the same night as I did not have as good of an experience, but hopefully he will give them another try. Pros: Knowledgeable staff, excellent food more

Fabulous! 8/9/2006

I went to Tony's for the first time recently and I loved it! The service was superb and the cuisine was exceptional. I thouroughly enjoyed the decor and atmosphere. We will definately be going back. Pros: Food, Wine, Ambiance Cons: None! more

A Disaster - Beyond Disappointing 2/18/2006

My wife and I went to Tony's for Valentine's evening. It cost us three hours of stress and anger, for which we paid over $300. The undersized staff was untrained and some were almost illiterate. Since this new place is better than twice the size of the old place Tony's should have twice the waitstaff; but that isn't the case. It was like a bad but not cheap diner. Waiters arguing with each other and the guests (some guests were really angered about the quality of the evening). It was a sad zoo. You might say that you would endure a horrible evening for good food; forget it. The food was miniscule and mediocre. We are NEVER returning. Houston has too many places to waste our nerves, our temper and our money on this farce. Pros: Cheesy Decor, Pretentious Pricing, Tiny Portions Cons: Indifferent Waitstaff, Poor Service, So So Food more

Ultimate Dining Experience! 11/27/2005

The meal was delectable ~ From appetizer to dessert! Would recommend anytime. The price is definitely worth every bite! The restaurant is wonderfully decorated, very open, and has private wine cellars in the back for elegant group dining. Just talking about it - I have to go back! more

lucky houston 9/18/2005

houston is so lucky to have a restaurant as fine as tony's one of the 5 or6 great restaurants in america! dept and quality of menu, pampering service an always there and directing owner probably the most beautiful restaurant anywhere and a wine list that has something for everyone and every budget.the osso buco is world class as are the short ribs and any of the fish dishes. for fine dining there is none other! Pros: cuisine, service, ambience more

On the cutting edge of restaurant perfection. 9/17/2005

From the time you pull into to the beautifully landscaped front driveway, to the time you walk out, everything in between is nothing short of phenominal. I had the truffled filet of beef, and the dish itself was simply beyond my ability to describe how incredible it was. The black truffle butter which stuffs the filet is unlike anything I have ever tasted and the vela jack cheese potatoes were an absolut symphony of flavor. On a scale of 1 to 10, 100. Pros: Finest quality, Supreme wine list, 5 star service Cons: Can't think of any. more

User review by mannyleal 9/17/2005

Having dined at some of the finest European and U.S. restaurants I rate Tony's as a world class restaurant. I ordered a bone in rib eye medium rare and it arrived exactly as ordered with an incredibly good flavor, taste and appearance. The menu had something for everyone in our party, all gave their dinner superb accolades. I recommend the soft shell crab, Linguine Alle Vongole and Tony's assorted desserts. Overall rating, world class excellent. Pros: Food quality, Service, Consistency more

New Tony's Needs Some Fine Tuning 8/3/2005

Dinner at Tony's was somewhat disappointing. Rolls before dinner had burned bottoms and butter was slow in coming to the table. Red Snapper Milanese style was touted as having peppers but showed up with only a lone sliver. The fish also seemed to have been sauteed in an egg batter which gave it a faint taste of omelette. Grilled tuna arrived very rare despite request for medium rare. Ten minutes later the fish returned cooked to perfection. Truffled potatoes were swimming in oil. Service attentive and friendly. Overall, poor value. Pros: Interesting decor, Nice wine list Cons: Average food, poor value more

Exceptional! 6/2/2005

The ambiance, food and service are impeccable! I recommend that anyone staying in Houston must dine here. Also, while I was there, I saw Elton John.....I of course didnt go up to him but the fact that I was eating a few tables away was an extra treat! Pros: ambiance, food, service more

Amazing 12/16/2004

I had the pleasure of dining at Tony's for my birthday dinner last night and it was heavenly. From the gracious hosts at the door to the last sip of port before leaving, the meal was nearly perfect. (I say nearly only because the junior waiter had a bit of trouble with the wine selection--but the rest was fabulous). We just moved to Houston from Manhattan a few months ago, and this is by far my favorite find so far. I recommend it to anyone for a truly special meal, and when you go, try the Filet Nino. Fantastic! Pros: Wonderful food, great service, decadent decor more

Good but it has problems 10/30/2004

We don't frequent Tony's every week, but we go occasionally. Our most recent visit was mixed. There was water dripping from A/C vents in the ceiling and had to be cleaned while we were eating. Our table was so close to the next table that my husband couldnt get up without asking multiple people to move. Our food was excellent and the souffle was awesome. The valet parked my car so close to the potted plants that I had to climb over them to get in my car. I just don't know if this type of service and problems is worth the price of the food. Pros: food, service, decor Cons: , valet service more

Very expensive but not top quality 10/4/2004

The most fancy restaurant of Houston? I was very dissapointed. First, the food was not extraordinary. The crabcake appetizers were excellent but the duck dish was too dry, and the steak was not the best I have ever had. For the price, I expected better. Second, in such a restaurant I expect perfect service. All waiters were great, really, except... the one responsible for our table, unfortunately. He was snobbish, would ask a question and instead of listening to our answer would prefer to answer other waiters. There was a clear discrepancy of treatment between the ""usual"" customers, and new ones like us. Result: we won't go back. I am sorry, but when I pay this price, I want to be treated like a queen. If you have money to waste, it is worth going for the decor, the wine cellar, and people watching (the posh gentry of Houston). Cons: , food is average more

A Fine Dining Experience 7/27/2004

For those who enjoy all that a 'nice' restaurant has to offer, Tony's is on my list of restaurants to visit. Food, Service and Atmosphere. It's all there. Nothing better than good food and good wine. more

TO FAR GONE 12/9/2003

I for one am NOT jealous of anyone. I can afford to eat at Tony's any time. I will never eat there again due to the rude staff & bad food. Tony's was the top resturant in town years ago, but since they closed and reopened a few years back, they have not even been close to the same. I think too many people confuse high priced fluff for real, quality food and service. Tony's just dose not have it anymore and I don't think they ever will. more

As good as it gets 7/24/2003

We dine at fine restaurants all over Houston, and Tony's is the best. From the superb cuisine of Chef Bruce McMillian to the impeccable service overseen by Jon Paul, Tony's has no peer in Houston. I think the individuals who rate Tony's poorly are simply jealous of those of us who can frequent this establishment. Pros: Cuisine, Service, Atmosphere more

  • In Short
A waterfall entryway, striking artwork (including a 12-foot sculpture in the main dining room) and sophisticated ambiance redefine Tony Vallone's namesake eatery. The decor is contemporary, done in warm reddish browns, while skylights and a glassed kitchen add to the feeling of openness. A mix of elite and casual diners chat amiably among the many tables. The updated European-style menu includes creative appetizers, pastas, steaks and a variety of fish. Don't miss the souffle for dessert.
