Tony’s Barbershop in Fountain Hills is one of the hidden gems in the “downtown” area of the town. Located on the back side of a variety store facing Verde River Drive, and facing the large internal parking lot behind Avenue of the Fountains, it is not easy to find. However, Bill the Barber, the sole proprietor of Tony’s since Tony retired, gives his patrons a great view of the Fountain out the large plate-glass window while he cuts hair. The view is very nice because the parking lot ensures that no buildings block the view, and Bill keeps the TV tuned to Country Music Television for the waiting customer not already in the big red leather chair. Haircuts for men are $14, and Bill is very accommodating, asking each customer how they want their hair cut on that day, and then actually making a good faith effort to provide what is requested. This second aspect is not always a given at some barbershops, so the clientele is a good mix of Fountain Hills, Rio Verde and North Scottsdale men and boys of all ages, who get in and out of the chair in about fifteen minutes.
