On July 10, 2011 at approximately 10pm, Tioga Police Department made a routine stop for a license plate light that was said to be inoperable. The female driving the vehicle did not have a valid drivers license and had an unrestrained child. She was arrested at the shell station on 377 in Tioga. The other adult occupants, a 22 year old female, two toddlers, two infants, (ages 9 months, 10 months, 3 years, and 5 years), were told to exit the vehicle so it could be towed. The two women were just returning from the grocery store so police allowed them to remove all the groceries from the vehicle and sit at the Shell station. The 22 yr old female was told by Shell employees that the store was closing so she, the two infants, two toddlers, and their groceries would have to wait outside in the upper 90's temps.
When ask why the car had to be towed the arresting officer said ""Because I am now responsible for it""
Why then wasn't he responsible for the four children stranded on the side of Hwy 377 in Tioga? Is the police slogan not ""To Protect and Serve""
Shame on you Tioga Police department and Shell Station for placing four helpless children on the side of a Hwy, knowing that help was over an hour away.
