Disappointing 7/24/2011

Let me start by including the fact that i've been eating at Tin Fish for about 3 years, and about 20 times in the past 8 months alone, taking a look back at my varied experiences there , I am questioning why I return over and over with friends, family, coworkers. Every time I bring a new person there they are disappointed that it didnt live up to my hype which in turn adds to my disappointment, and when I was in there for dinner with my father the other day (who has been going there longer than I have) he had pointed out the ever changing but never evolving service or wait staff attitude, Our server was kris, and she had waited on us many many times before, but the bus staff has a better attidude and flow about them , but that was only a small part of the ever declining atmosphere and experience. We started out with some crab cakes and a salad which were both good but both were cold also, still at this point not that bad, I was famished and ready to get to some real food. My father ordered fish (came overcooked outside undercooked inside) and didn't even eat half of it, he would not complain until we left, i had a dry aged steak medium that came dry alright, I ate a little more than half anyway, who want to waste that kind of money? I will have to go in there for a drink one of the days and have a talk with the owner (who used to know us by name) until then I might not ever return because there are so many other fulfilling options in the area..... Disappointed Dave ""The Crave"", Out. more

Great service even better food! 11/22/2008

Was visiting my folks ont in the south suburbs for my dads birthday and took them to Tin Fish. This is as good a restaurant as any I've been to in the city. Cape scallops were to die for and the skate wing with roasted tomatoes and rice crust melted in my mouth. My dad loved the clam chowder and they even had fresh alaskan king crab legs...WOW! Very fair prices in the city it would have been way more. Janice took great care of us she was very professional only downer was I wish they had esspresso. I may be seeing alo more of my parents now that I know about this place! Pros: Great service, very fresh seafood, nice atmostphere Cons: No esspresso more

Service issues 10/10/2007

The food was good. We ate dinner at the bar and the bartender was too pushy, too much of a ""salesperson"". We left feeling robbed. It ruined our dining experience. We haven't been back since. It's too bad because we enjoyed the food. more

Absolutely Worth The Trip! 5/1/2006

Love this Place Fish is so fresh it melts in your mouth! Great Martinis, Excellent Service, the wait staff was right on the money with recommendation and portions were fantastic. I recommend this the Tin Fish in Tinley Park . Highly recommended. Pros: Excellent Food, Excellent Service, Excellent Location more

Good stuff... 11/27/2005

I dine at Tin Fish frequently, and have (almost) always have good luck. The fish is super fresh and I don't mind paying a little more for quality. Service is solid and believe it or not, the busboys are noticably sharp. The wine list is full of bargains if you know what to look for or ask for help. I'm not sure what to make of the other bad reviews here. I guess we're looking for different things. Pros: freshness, service, wine list Cons: some tight seating more

Mediocre 2/15/2005

As stated before, this restaurant is well placed in a stripmall outside of downtown... because if it were in town, they would be out of business. Slightly high prices for very average (but well dressed) food, slow service, with an excellent atmosphere. Pros: Ambiance, Clean Cons: Slow service more

Fresh! 10/21/2004

Dined here Oct. 2004. Had heard a lot about it and was quite happy with it. The service was outstanding and the menu was intriguing with the mix and match concept. Both my husband and I had the Sea Bass each prepared differently. Both excellent! The spicy shrimp and fresh oysters were very good. Liked that you could choose between east coast or west coast oysters. Server was knowledgeable and new exactly where each was coming from. Consider the specials...outstanding! Pros: Valet parking, Great Mai Tai!, Attentive servers Cons: , A little pricey, Some tables too close more

Not worth it 6/2/2004

The prices were way too high for what you received. My husband ordered a fresh fish of the day, and that was ALL that came on his plate. Not even a garnish. It was so salty we had to send it back for a different piece of fish and the waiter actually had the audacity to say he tried the fish and it was too salty -- like we had lied or something. I would never come here again. more

There's A Reason It's In Tinley Park 7/13/2003

...because this restaurant would not survive in the city. After reading several stellar reviews, we made reservations on a recent Saturday night. We showed up about 20 minutes early and informed the hostess team we wanted to have a drink in the bar and would be ready to eat when our table was ready. 5 minutes before our reservation, we again informed the team of our presence. 45 minutes later we were finally seated with no excuse other than ""we're really busy."" It wasn't worth the wait. Mediocre food. Horrible service. People (and restaurants) are defined by how they respond to adversity and in this case, Tin Fish didn't even try. If you live in Tinley Park , your options are limited to Applebee's and Tin Fish... But if you want decent seafood (AND service) in the suburbs you're better off heading north to Davis St Fishmarket. Pros: Free Valet Parking, Moderate Pricing Cons: Horrible Service, Extremely Loud more

BEST SEAFOOD in the midwest 3/3/2003

Clams on the half shell were big & fresh, but I can't stop thinking about the Buffalo Shrimp. If nothing else, go for the Buffalo Shrimp. It's not what you're thinking... not deep fried at all. I can't explain it, you just have to try it!!! Great variety of seafood. Definitely worth the trip 'cause there's nothing like it in the city. Pros: Free Valet parking, Excellent Value more

Fresh Fresh Fresh Fish 1/22/2003

Oysters on the 1/2 were the best I've had in the Midwest. On a Friday night they were out of Salmon, so I had to choose an alternative, Tuna I recall, done perfectly to order. My wifes New York Strip was done perfectly to order and was almost fork tender with perfect tase and texture. Key Lime pie for desert was key lime. Plenty of wait staff, extremely courteos and attentive. Wine list adequate but nothing to write home about. Hemingwayish decor. Pros: fresh, fresh, fish, free valet parking, wait staff more

Too Bad 1/2/2003

I was less impressed than most by the service and the food @ Tin Fish. I thought the scallops could have been firmer, and the server...well was amatuerish at best. Although, maybe the lack of table vigilance may have been due to the fact that it was New Years Eve. It also was a bit loud inside and didn't promote good conversation. Oustanding raw oysters though. more

freshest seafood- excellent value 12/26/2002

chef colin turner has done it again!! freshest fish you will find. do not be deceived or confused by the store front/strip mall facade. excellent presentation and an extensive, affordable wine list. great decor with attentive, knowledgable service. a gem in the southern suburbs. well worth the drive. Pros: experience staff, "value for the money", spacious Cons: distance to travel more

Yummy!! 11/4/2002

I was there on October 19th. I had the roasted red snapper. Which was the best fish I have ever had and the thai chile sauce that accompanied it was just perfect. My friens had the swirdfish and also loved it. The Buffalo shrimp are a great appetizer. Cant wait to go back Pros: Reasonable more

hidden gem in the suburbs 11/3/2002

I had one of the greatest dining eperiences here! I was surprised to find such a cool place so far from the city. I was told to give it a try and sure enough, the seafood here rivals any I have had in the city and the actual space would fit in anywhere downtown. You have a ""create your own"" option as the menu is broken down to several different types of fish with a mix and match sides- all which complement each fish in a different way. Very unique. A wonderful addition to suburban dining. Pros: reasonably priced, unique menu Cons: bad sound system more
