we should have known when each year we visited this hotel it got shabbier and shabbier. the signs on the doors explaining the charges for every single item in the room if damaged should have been a no-brainer: the picture on the wall, for example, was listed as $50 retail (yeah right), but $180 if damaged or stolen. but we kept going back each year, even when it changed management. it had become sort of a family tradition--it was cheap, and we were rarely in the nasty little rooms, anyway. \r \r but this year we learned our lesson. we called about a month ago to make a reservation for this weekend, and as usual gave our credit card info (but made no deposit). then my boyfriend got called to work unexpectedly, and there was no way we'd be able to make it. as if this wasn't heart-breaking enough, when we called with 48 hours of advance warning to cancel our reservation--we were told that we needed to give 7 days' notice, and would be charged. this was the first i'd been told of this--no one ever told me on the phone, and the website doesn't mention it either. it took several minutes for the woman on the phone to come up with a figure, all the while conferring with someone else in her office. she pulled $50 out of the air finally, and couldn't explain where that came from.\r \r when i explained that we were never told of this mysterious 7-day policy, and that i wanted to speak with a manager, i was told one would call me back. and within 1 minute of hanging up, my credit card had already been charged. and now no one will answer the hotel phone--it goes straight to voicemail everytime we call. very professional. obviously, we've disputed the charges, and our credit card company is already on the case. i wonder how many complaints need to be made before visa drops them completely?\r \r BOTTOM LINE: DO NOT GIVE THIS ""ESTABLISHMENT"" YOUR BUSINESS. Cons: tiny, shabby rooms. horrific customer service. mysterious charges applied with no approval. more
