My youngest daughter just had her tonsils taken out on Monday January 22,2007. Her doctor chooses to do surgeries at Three Gables Surgery Center in Proctorville, OH. This place is very friendly, they have a nice big waiting room, with a flat screen T.V. for folks to watch while waiting to go have their surgery or for their family, friends. ect to get finished. They even have a little area for the kids with a table, some chairs and books for them to look at. Once it's your turn, or in my case, my daughters turn, we follow the burse back, they take down an inventory as to what they are wearing, give you a bag & to put in & lock your things in a locker. Once changed into the hospital gown, they show you to your bed, take your vitals asked some health questions. And then, they go get a mask which the child will e wearing when they give they put them to sleep, and let them choose a scented or "smell good:" chap stick to put on the inside of the mask to help them not be afraid to put it on when the time comes. After the doctor is done with the surgery, the nurse calls you to a small "private, waiting room" and there the doctor tells you how the surgery went, and what to expect when you see him/her and how to take care of them after they get home. Once the patient is awake they let you go back to see them. They continue to monitor them for about 30 minutes afterwards (this was done on an outpatient basis). They want to make sure the patient is awake, alert & drinks at least 8oz of liquid before leaving. The staff was so wonderful overall. They even offered my son who was just 'tagging along' a koolaid coolburst drink, stickers & a bouncy ball so he didn't feel left out! This is a very nice facility, very clean with a friendly staff. I like this atmosphere better then teh hospitals outpatient surgery, because I don't feel as rushed, and they actually pay attention to you & you don't have to try & 'flag' someone down if you need a drink or have a question. This place gets a 5* rating from me :)
