I have always felt that the level of expertise of the actual veterinarians is on par for Sturtevant; not great but not bad. However, I am no longer a client because I have been charged for services I did not request on THREE separate occasions. Be AWARE when they use words like cytology or lab work or any type of testing. I have taken my dog in for a simple rash and ended up with a $300+ bill because the vet and or vet techs decided there was some other problem with my dog. Each and every time I go in, they have told me that all of my dogs have ear infections, and they DO NOT. I clean, bathe and groom my dogs on a regular basis. DR. SCHMIDT IS BRILLIANT AT PADDING THE BILL. When my dog was neutered I found two charges for lab testing, which were $160 each and I asked about them when paying. The vet said he thought some of the tissues looked abnormal and without my permission sent them out for testing and sent me the bill. Dr. Temple is less than abysmal, if you are booked an appointment with her, request someone else. She has a condescending bedside manner and her diagnostic abilities are terrible.
The practice itself is clean, the staff is nice enough but the turnover is INCREDIBLY high. I have yet to see the same vet techs and or receptionists twice. This suggests to me that there are a lot of managerial conflicts and that the priorities in the practice are not on customer service. Your pets will always be treated nicely, but you will go home with a very sore pocketbook. I am not the kind of person that skimps when it comes to my animals, but even I am turned off by the ridiculous additional costs.
