Thirsty Scholar 4/24/2006

Thirsty scholar is an all-around Cambridge-style bar sitting astride the Somerville Line. Kiosks like round table and stools punctuate the bar's walks hand dark decor. Like the name suggests, one comes here to an appetite for a night on the town. The fare is very middle of the road. They have the room here for name-talent and live entertainment. Unless they do that, this place will never be a headline name. But it's a good backup to the headline places and once you go, you are very likely to return. more

Great bar for the basics 8/17/2005

Thirsty Scholar has a good brunch/lunch/dinner/drinks menu. All the usual dishes you would find in any good Irish or English pub are present and decently prepared. Dinner can include a Shepards pie while one can partake of an Irish breakfast during brunch. The bar food items, such as the french fries are approriately crispy and can be substituted for a decent rendition of CURRY FRIES! Yes, I know many you from certain english speaking countries overseas thought you would have to give up your little snack habits. Well not here at the Thirsty Scholar. The atmosphere can be quiet or quite loud and rowdy depending on who is playing soccer on the big screen. As it is located just down the street from Harvard this is a great place to escape from the riff-raff in Harvard Square for a pint and curry fries. more

Al Fresco Drinking on the Cambridge/Somerville Line 8/6/2005

Harvard Type bar with dark wood, spacious. Best part is the large windows that open up onto the street to get some fresh air. Plenty of on street parking although you will have to wallk a couple of blocks. The food and drinks is resonably priced. The bar is more of a hangout, literary type gathering. All types of good beers on draft. The bartender was great and was willing to make us Sangria even though it is not on their menu. Staff doesn't rush you, you can just chill. Live music via DJ on the weekends. more

Editorial
  • In Short
Other watering holes claim closer proximity to the scholars of Harvard and MIT, but such details don't appear to bother the mostly local crowd at this drafty pub. Perhaps the...
